Let me know what you think... parts start rolling in today :-)
  • CPU: 5960x
  • case: corsair 900d
  • memory: corsair domninator 16gb
  • storage: Plextor M6e M.2 (native) 512 gb SSD
  • cooler: cpu cooler master nepton 280l
  • gpu: (2) EVGA 780ti kingpin (waiting on announcement, may return GPUS FOR (980s when anounced tomorrow)
  • Mobo: Asus X99 Deluxe
  • PSU: evga Supernova 1300
Nvidia is supposed to announce tomorrow the gtx980 and pricing --- if they're anywhere as near as good as the 780ti, I'm going to return the 780s and go with 980s (they're supposed to be nearly half the price as a 780ti... we'll see about performance tomorrow)

Anyway, pretty sure this should have no problem running MWO :-)

He probably meant to put an X instead of a K, there is no such thing as a 5960K. A few retailers of prebuilt systems also mistakenly used K instead of X for the 8-core CPU.

Either way, it's going to be a really nice system for doing pretty much anything on. Waiting on my RMA'ed RAM to be able to use my X99 system again, but my initial impressions playing MWO on it can be summed up as "omfg". I opted for the 5820K because I really just needed the extra cores over my 2600K P67 system for some home virtualization, the IPC jump from SB to HW-E was of bigger benefit to gaming than the cores. The memory seems to have zero effect (went from 8GB DDR3-1866 to 16GB DDR4-2666). I didn't even get a chance to test SLI on my new system yet.

Also, OP, the price for the 980s isn't supposed to be that low. I think somebody printed a whole lot of crap and some people actually bought it. Everything I've seen from more reputable sources points to $450-550 as the possible price range on release for a 980, and $350-400 for the 970.

EDIT: I think you overpaid on your RAM big time, the dominator doesn't appear to be even a lick better than the vengeance. I opted for the Corsair H105 AIO water cooler instead, too. If you're looking for a top OC on that chip, it might be something to look at. I would have opted for a Samsung 850 SSD instead of the Plextor, too.

A UK shop spoilered the prices for the 980 as 599,- dollars along with some specs.

I'll try to find the source where I read that, as I currently don't have it available.
Linked the specs, can't find the price source.

Yeah, meant to put an "x". not K.
I started at the 5820 ... then let myself be convinced by the b-tards on overclocker.net that the only chip to get was the 5960.

We'll know about the 980s tomorrow--- If the price is lower and the performance is almost the same as the 780s, that may be a sweet addition.

The corsair is pc3200 -- so yeah, it's going to be overpriced, if you can even find it.
I didn't want to go with the samsung because plextor is the only manufacturer right now making a native m.2 interface ... all other manufacturers are using a standard sata III interface ... which is hobbled by 6gb limit...

I'll look at the corsair CLC

Just got the plextor .. thing is just a memory stick ... hard to believe that its my main boot drive :-)

Pretty similiar to what I'm getting here in a week. Not much of an upgrade from what I am currently using.. but it's been 2 years since a CPU and board/RAM upgrade for me.

Just as a suggestion, if you're going with the 5930, give a long, hard look at the 5820. I initially was going to go with the 5930, but I just don't think it's worth the extra money. the 5820 is .1 mhz slower, but by all accounts these chips all max out around 4.5-4.6 overclock. The 5820 has the same number of cores, it just has fewer pci lanes. All the benchmarks being conducted right now using sli with an m.2 drive are showing very little -- negligible -- difference between the 5820 and 5830.

Anyway, just my $.02. Get the 5820, and spend the $300 you save on a better video card.

I upgraded to the 4790K -- could not wait for the Haswell-E.

Now I am jealous.

Beautiful specifications. You could keep the 780 Ti's for the time being and upgrade feature from EVGA when the GTX980 is released.

I'm going to see what happens tomorrow, supposedly the 980s come out.
I'm unfortunetly in no rush -- while the memory, processor, water cooler, m.2 drive, and all the little goodies I've bought arrived, the @#$#@'n case an mobo are delayed until next week :-(

GTX 980 should be around $550 and a bit better than 780ti, while also consuming less power.

I see no reason not to go 980.

The official skinny looks to be that performance is better in most games than the 780 Ti by 10-15%, and the cost will be ~$550. Might as well send those 780 Ti's back :)

when people buy RAM, I wonder why you buy these super high clocked ones, DO your other components even support these clockings? If not you wasted just a lot money. Becasue most components don't support this speed anways.
