Form that follows Function is sexy, c.f. Marauder.

What's most important? For my playstyle, getting the most efficient buildout. In effect, this generally means superior superior range, superior heat management, superior lasting power. Being able to drop enemies before they can lay down any significant damage. This pretty much rules out any scout as well as any brawler -- the former is never a threat at range and can't take a hit, and the latter can't threaten without taking damage.

I can't see what my 'Mech looks like from inside the cockpit.

Just sayin'

But what i can see from the cockpit has a lot to do with my choices in combination with the hardpoint locations and map.On city maps id stay away from a Fafnir or a CB id prolly lean more to a atlas or the hunchie. Those extra steps to clear cover will cost ya.Playing Peeka bo on a rolling hills map in a Timberwolf its gona get your ears eatten ,while that same Fafnir is much less expossed. Those kinda things are what i usually base my choices on.

As far as load out goes most are functional ,spend enuff time in the mech lab you can figure out somthing.

Looks are unimportant,i get to see all the pretty mechs when im shooting at you girls:P. /run/duck/cover

There is a sdaying in Texas that a good horse has no bad color. Same for a mech! A mech ias intended for "GO" not "SHOW". I'll be in the mech not outside, so how it looks is other folks problem.

Honestly I'll use what ever mech suits how I play. Could looks like a mobile pile of dung for all I care, as long as it works for me.

Look and feel is most important to me. However, how well it functions does play a part. I wouldn't be able to use the best looking mech in the world if it was made out of paper and only had a pea shooter, after all. So, mix of both, with looks taking the bigger role.

My favorite Mechs have always been long range missile launchers, aka the Catipult. I like being the "walking LRM with legs", that sits on top of a hill and rains down die missiles at max range. FEUER DIE MISSILES! Jumpjets help to get those sweet vantage points that you can't normally climb on top of too. I also liked light Scout Mechs, which sadly didn't serve much purpose in previous games.(A Raven was nice to have in Mechcommander though) Since Light Mechs will actually be useful in this game, I will probably be buying a Raven really quickly to field when my Founders Jenner is downtimed.(I will be buying Legendary Founders soon) While there are other light Mechs, I always liked how the Raven looked and it was made famous to me by Mechcommander. Sadly I don't believe you'll be able to get jumpjets on a Raven in this game.(You also couldn't in MW4) A light mech with no jets is ultimately limited in usefulness and much more vulnerable to enemy fire. Unless the Raven gets more electronics than other Lights to make up for it... it will probably be a weak Mech.

Has to be a good blend of function, and ascetics. Can't be piloting a useless, or ugly Mech.

Role, firepower, looks, cost. In that order.

I'd never choose a Mech that doesn't have the right amount of sex appeal ;)

I would rather have a funtional mech and survive so I can have sex later... so my vote is functionality over asthetics

For me, It's functionality over looks.
What suits the Role I want to play? Scout, Assult, Com
Hard points and loadout.
Balancing Weapons and heat.
Then looks.

Because, right now they have said that there is no 3rd person view on the battlefield. So, the only time your looking at your mech would seem to be in a cut scene if they do them for Dropship missions, or in the Mechlab. While I do have mech's I like the look of over other ones. It's not a big factor over what will get the job done and be the best to suit the role I choose for the match.

Honestly this really depends on the situation and terrain.

For me, it is also a level of Role Play. I want to have a back story in my mind, and also create a continuing saga. I "justify" why I have a mech, and if it doesn't fit, I don't get it. In my mind, they are making ALL mech's viable in this game, so there should really be no real reason to not have the aesthetics and the feel when you choose the mech you want.

Personally I think the following criteria (not necessarily in order):

1) Size of the Mech, and hitbox sizes. Some Mechs were overpowered/underpowered almost based on how big their torso hitboxes were in MW4. Mektek almost took some Mechs the other way by changing the hitbox sizes.

2) Hardpoints and loadout - I simply prefer some loadouts better than others

3) Weight - I prefer the lights to heavies, probably going to stick to mediums the most when the game comes out.

3) Reputation and name - I just prefer some old time classics over others.

4) Aesthetics. If you're going to go down fighting, you might as well be dressed in your best.

Top speed is all that really matters to me. I can work everything else around that.

Though, I am the guy that four-slotted flight for speed in City of Heroes...

When picking what warmachine you want to pilot, do you care more about variants and possible loadouts, or look and feel? Personally, even if it was the most powerful mech in the game, if it didn't look 'cool' to me, I wouldn't play it.

What about yourself? Aesthetics or practicality?

Ex. I think the Ares looks incredibly cool, but it probably has to be the most impractical hunk of steel ever made.

I sure do prefer them to look cool (although what each of us feels defines that may vary), but a nice balance of hardpoints for potential customisation also ranks highly. I tend to prefer energy or ballistic weapons to missiles, particularly if I have good targeting control (fires on crosshairs, without much RNG).
