Commando's are pretty nasty too, especially guys that know what they're doing, hitreg on anything moving fast is pretty horrible.

Pretty much, yes ... running a laserboat a single fast light shreds you without so much as turning mildly yellow if you don't get backup.
Taking down lights with PPCs or ACs is no problem at all compared to that.

Lasers are hitscan. (Lasers/Machineguns/Flamers)
Ballistics uses Host State rewind. (AC's/SRM/LRM/PPC)
They both tie in together, but Ballistics register way better than hitscan lasers.
But when you use any system that interpolates player positions and then tries to "guess" how many times you scored a hit, its always going to be a crapshoot.
Problem gets worse when the engine itself has issues "guessing" where a very fast moving object is, as anything moving faster than 100kph in the game causes the hitbox and the visible Mech geometry to be seperated often by a great distance due to low tickrates in the Cryengine netcode itself.
Simple explanation, Gauss/PPC/AC's will always register a hit more reliably.

Hmmm... My understanding is Lasers also has HSR but it just doesn't work very well at the moment.
Karl words were.. Lasers has its own problems...
