What do they mean by "offset timeline"? Does this mean it is not in line with previous Mechwarrior/Battletech lore?

It's like when some one posts to a really old thread in a forum, but on a regular basis.

For instance, if I were to find another thread one day younger tomorrow, and post to that tomorrow, and the same thing the next day (to a thread another day younger) ad infinitum. That would be an offset timeline.

Of course, this is towards the future instead of towards the past, but it's the same idea. Every day that passes here, the game goes forwards one day in the future. They may or may not make jumps forwards in the future, but we don't know that yet.
