So I have been leveling up kitfoxes for something to do ... nice little support mech.

1) I started off with the ECM+3xAMS+2xC-ER-LL or some C-ER-ML or some combination,+MGs ... it was good against LRMs ... excellent support ... not so much damage at times.

2) I then switched to 2xC-ERPPC + ECM. Decent firepower. Good support when keeping the team covered. However, needed a decent field of fire and ran really hot.

So then I decided to try something a bit different for me ...

3) LRM20 + 2.5 tons ammo, C-TAG, ECM, C-ER-LL ... and I am surprised at how well this has been performing. I follow along in the back row generally two or three mechs behind the assault/heavy. Provide ECM cover ... but more usefully I tag some of the opposing mechs near the front. I fire my own LRMs that shake them up a bit and make it tough to return fire. In the meantime I am holding my own lock with tag and a number of other LRMs on my team start to fire at the same target. I throw in the damage from the LL when the line of sight allows.

The biggest difference I have noticed is that the third build seems to contribute more to my team winning than the others. The use of ECM to protect the heavy/assaults at the front combined with the focused LRM fire inspired by the TAG really seems to herd the PUG players in the right direction. On the other hand, this may be working particularly well at the moment since there are a number of Mad Dogs out there which are usually fitted with missiles of one sort or another.

I've been struggling to find a build that works. I moved from a CDA-3M where I could regularly pull 500 dmg to the KFX-S where I was struggling to pull 200. On paper, the KFX has much more firepower, but it just wasn't translating in game. I'm running 2 ERLL, 2 MG, SSRM4. I tried 2xLPL but I disliked the range trade off for maps like Alpine. Next I think I will go for something similar to your LRM build on my next variant (LRM left arm, ERLL and ECM right arm) and see how it goes.

I run 2 versions. Both have ECM, and I use it for support. Generally make at least 300 points of damage a game with the little guys. First I have one with a uac5 in the right torso, I believe with 3 tons of ammo, and 3 er medium lasers and jump jets. the second one mounts a uac10 in the same location, with 3t ammo, and 2 small lasers. The latter is definitely a stick close to a whale version.

I run mine at about 400 damage/game like so: KFX-PRIME

Doesn't run very hot and the LPL is fun for quick potshots.

Can't get used to the U/AC5

interesting, same here. the 3M was my go to "light" for MONTHS
However I haven't found a build in the kitfochs that does NOT work!
ECM is mandatory.
Full armor is mandatory
lrm20, 2 medium lasers
erppc, 2 pulse
erlarge 2 ermediums
last night I was trying any and all combos, tried this for the first time got kills, got damage, had a blast.
I do break 500 often enough, but lately, it seems I'm getting 200-300 damage, but getting a couple kills per battle.

same for the C3M, I'm hoping the KtD ratio becomes the same for the kit as it was for my cicada

protip on the kit unlike any other light..STAY WITH THE PACK.. ..under no circumstances go wandering off like the cicada, you dont have the speed to out run..well, anything. its a support mech, pure and simple.
You are the pitbull darting in and out from between the legs of the T-rex, securing kills, chasing off other scavengers, adding teeth to your assaults forward bite.
ECM, UAV, arty or air strike.

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...a88f8a43025dea9
Its a some kind of light brawler. Without getting noticed move behind some pure guy and test firepower.

I dont like concept of "utility mech" in pug. My comparsions are always about damage and kills. So i cannot change 2 missile hardpoints (24 dmg) for ecm.
With 4srm6+2mg build i can get 4 kills and score 750 damage. I cant get this result with any other fox builds.

Are you contributing a Kit Fox build as well? Otherwise your post might be explained for something else.

Impressive.

Almost as impressive is how much damage was done overall by your team. Was every enemy at 1% before being dropped? :P

I admit, the damage farm was pretty elevated. Most of my damage was done at 1000-1400 meters back when the ERLL was still the crazy 890meters. I had many assaults to hen peck to death, some of which had lost their long range weapons before the late-game got going with the Cicada and I.

ECM+uac5+3xERML is my go to build. I feel it's pretty flexible, has decent range, and doesn't overheat too badly.

Well, if you play on going alone, ECM can give you away if you forget to switch modes when you get near the whale you wish to backstab.

SRM24 is no joke on something that small. The trick is to do drive-byes and corner peeks, jump shots as well.

Its high risk, but if you stay with your heavies, the enemy tends to not shoot at you. late match when everyone is beat up, if you stayed hidden and only took potshots, you can vulture like mad.
NEVER stare down an opponent, always have an angle.
