That being said... if the color placements on the mech for the 3 colors you can choose happen to allow you to create a King Crab with the same colors in the right general locations (red "head" on top and claws, white body, etc.), than who can complain?

Yeah, there actually aren't any legal issues if PGI make the pattern and warhorn provided they don't advertise them as having anything to do with Zoidberg. Give the pattern the name of one of the more boring patterns and call the warhorn (a modified recording of a PGI employee going wubwubwub) 'Sea Creature' and it's all deniable.

Not that this will ever happen. But I can dream.

You are correct up to a point, but the threat of legal action is still there and discourages most companies from trying. Look at the Michael Jackson Zombie fiasco with Plants vs Zombies. Nonetheless, a mech that is vaguely the same colour as zoidberg and has sandals wouldn't be a very lucrative target for a law suit.

Ill have to look into it(I had not heard of PvZ having issues), but Mat Groening and his crew are quite fond of parodied tie-ins and homages. Not to mention the Jackson Estate... is far from healthy(and as such money grabs are inevitable).

On a serious note, if the actual amount of sillyness in this game increases, it's really going to suck. I know Battletech is a silly universe to begin with, but it's not something that appeals to me at all.
