What do you think of the Mad Dog now that it has been out for one week? Is it as devastating as you originally hoped or feared it might be? As fun to play?

Thoughts?

Yep. Large firepower potential is kept in check by 60-tonner armor, easy to hit STs, and usually not enough space for adequate heat sinks.

It is fun though, I like it.

It's very hot. Other than that, it's very similar to the CPLT-C4, except more flexibility all around. Works well as a splat striker, or as LRM support. About as survivable as a medium.

Definitely a second-line unit, but a very good one at that. It's can't charge in like the Timbers or Stormcrows, but it's exceptionally good as a second mech in. As long as it doesn't take serious concentrated fire or engage a heavier enemy 1v1, it's a real gem of a mech.

Armor is what you'd expect on a 60 tonner, though, and it's less heat efficient than most other clan mechs. Keep that in mind.

The complaints about it seem pretty unjustified.

At least its not a Dragon.

Pretty good. People saying it is too soft or weak are crazy, you can't faceroll like a timberwolf. I've seen SRM 30+artemis with 2-3 lasers on the side; which is a strong ass load out for 60 tons.

Run it with the same mindset you would when using a Jager with an XL, and you'll do fine. Just keep repeating "I am a delicate snowflake" over and over...

You can't run 22 tubes with Artemis. You can take 2 MLs, 22 tubes and 400-600 missiles.

Why wouldn't you XL a SHD?

Because not everyone has to have the same cookie cutter loadout?

Take out the artemis, big whoop the loadout is still very strong. The point being it is a good mech and the "paper side torsos" is not really a good argument considering its role and weight.

I still can't add the extra 20 points of armor the MechLab says that are available for the CT. There is no "up" arrow for me to click to add it.

Is everyone else still having that problem?

Make sure you have the money for the armor, and the weight available.

I like it pretty well. A bit squishy, but hits hard. Just got my prime speed tweaked, think I'll really like it elited.

Here we go again. You ******* don't know how to play dragons. They are fine, but most MWO players don't have the proper mindset and twitch skill to pilot them effectively.

It isn't as tough as a Summoner or a Timberwolf. It feels nimble. It works well as anti-Light if you use SSRMs. It works well as a large shotgun if you use SRMs. It also works well as a LRM 30 support mech. It does run a wee bit hot. Once you get them Mastered, they really come alive.

I was disappointed by the glass shoulders, and will admit that I have yet to hit my stride with it, but it's proven to be an interesting experience. The SplatDog isn't as immediately, instantly devastating as I had hoped/believed, but in my calculations that's as likely to be my problem as it is the 'Mech's. It's definitely a machine that takes some adjusting and practice to get benefit out of, but I believe it's also a machine that can reward that adjustment and practice.

Haven't gotten mine mastered yet due to time constraints, but have been contemplating dumping my DXP weekend's haul of GXP into doing so just to be a douche. I could very easily see these things becoming a whole new ball game with doubled basics, even more so than most other 'Mechs.

just a few things
1-runs hot
2-seems to have the Daishi pebble syndrome, gets stuck on walking on objects
3-climbs up hills like an Atlas going backwards

but I really like the mech heh!

We are talking about the Mad Dog right?

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...a5aad39cbbfabf3

This build has an SRM28 with artemis, 7 tons of ammo and 2 backup ERMLas. Not the most heat efficient but not terrible either.

I built all of mine with a 1, 2 Mindset.

1)LRM Till you are out of ammo to soften up targets
2) Go in with ML's and AC to finish things off.

You really shine if you can mitigate damage in the opening minutes and dish it all out indirectly.
Then you smash through hopefully what is left.

It is a support mech, a Clan Catapult if you will. It actually really reminds me of MW4's version with all the missiles and secondary weapons.
