Can We Let Machineguns Shoot Down Missiles Already?

The amount of server load this would add would be prohibitive. (The AMS seems pretty simple: Point 2 Point calculation for distance.. continuous fire. No consideration for accuracy, it is assumed accurate.) With MGs firing at missiles, there is no hard-coded assumption of accuracy which would make the HSR go absolutely nuts trying to determine if you hit one of those dozens of missiles with your dozens of bullets. (CoF would provide a target area, which would be using RNG to determine missile hits and literally be dozens if not hundreds of extra calculations.)

As much laughing as I would do watching people try to shoot down swarms of missiles.. it just is not feasible.

Why don't clans have energy AMSes? I mean we have laser ams on our ships nowadays. Why would these mech engineers create bullet based AMSes? Lasers fire faster, kill from a longer distance, more accurate, and don't require ammo. Technically any of the current weapons would be able to destroy missiles, if I launch a volley of missiles and another volley comes at me, the two should collide at least sometimes.

I WISH they would add this. So all the stupid people who have issues with LRMs would start wasting ammo and generating heat shooting them down. In addition to the obvious, that they would have to stare up to do so and lose all situational awareness.

PLEASE add this. Let me abuse the derps who can't deal with LRMs even more. It'll be epic.

I'd actually be more inclined to use Las weapons on Missiles, as there's no ammo to worry about.
Also, what year does the Las-AMS come out? There is one in BT, right?

The counter point is that the hit registration for laser vs. very slow, HUGE mech isn't there, how could it be there with laser vs. very fast moving very small missile?

I mean, if people want to face tank volleys of LRMs for a slim chance of shooting a few down, I know I wouldn't complain... so long as they're on the enemy team.

ok, help me with this, does the game not track LRMs as individual objects? and does the AMS not shoot at them one by one? is the line of AMS fire not ACTUALLY shooting it?

seriously...i have no idea...

it behaves like that, so most assume it is.
which leads to....MACHINEGUN ALL THE THINGS!!! making sense on this end of the keyboard....

I think people are greatly underestimating how hard it would be to hit incoming missiles with MGs, even with perfect hit detection.

i shoot missles all the time with my T-16 back home....er...i mean my lazors.....they just don't explode when i do it.

Its a neat idea, but I see a couple of major problems with it.
First, if you let this happen, all I would have to do is fire a missile at you and you would look to the sky. Then I blast you with a PPC - - right in the head. lol.
Second. You have to hit them.

Missiles already have health that gets hit by the AMS. just give some weapons multiplier against missiles like mguns have on internal structure?

Hell CWIS systems are pretty interesting and I think should get more nuance in this

There's a reason that CWIS systems aren't driven by human gunners.

How about they spend time making destructible features such as the stupid statues in River City, the annoying posters, the silly magical trees? Heck, could even let us destroy some of the boulders that are lying around? Something else they could invest programming hours in would be real collision damage.

Please just learn how to deal with LRMs with the gear that exists.
