Makes absolutely no difference.
Just ran canyon network, 12x12 match, actually became pretty close quartered ... fps ranged as usual, between high 40s - 60s, running three monitors in surround at a resolution of 5760x1200.
same setup as before, with one added video card. (5960x, overclocked to 4.4ghz, 3x evga gtx 980 sc):

Well

Certainly seems to be the story across the board! Like the game caps out regardless of hardware

Well unless I am mistaken MWO still doesn't officially support SLI or Crossfire. You can force the cards to run SLI/Xfire in MWO but i definitely wouldn't expect performance scaling. MWO is very much CPU bound and even with my one r9 290 I run mwo at 60-140 fps with anywhere from 40-100% gpu usage. If i turn v-sync on my gpu maxes at 50% usage. I play @ 1080p so you would definitely require more graphical horsepower at that res but I wouldn't expect it to work well with MWO. Try a game like Tomb Raider. That game has godlike optimization and scales amazingly with each GPU added. Triple 780s can net like 2000 fps on occasion.

Out of curiosity, what CPU are you running?

Also, what MWO settings?

I actually saw a measurable difference when I went from 1 980 to 2... not a lot, but decent. Adding a third did zilch.

Yep, I'm running 3x290x and get the same fps as just running a single card. I average around 35 fps with triple 1440.

And it's not my cpu as I'm running a 4770k at 4.6ghz.

unless im mistaken there is no SLI support for MWO so 4x 980 would do no more then 1?

I think there is a way to force sli by using a different game's profile. There's a thread about how to do it somewhere.

See above. 3 vs 2 doesn't make a difference.

After fixing my "too much RAM problem" I have still occasionally seen low FPS drops but now they are not consistent and persistent.

I think most of what people with high-end PCs are experiencing is due to server lag.

SLI doens't work period in this game.

there are a bunch of folks that have posted possible settings to use to 'make it work' but they don't really work and cause more issues.

People should post in the geforce forums asking for an SLI profile for the game. It is the only way its going to happen....

I would LOVE for SLI to work because I want to use DX11 which doesn't really work with multiple video cards even if you disable SLI and set it to single card/single monitor only.

In case you may have missed my original posting of the message from Matthew Craig from September.

"sorry to keep you and the rest of the community hanging on SLI support, we pushed to get it finished and ran into an Nvidia driver bug but just for DX9 which they are resolving. They uncovered two issues with DX11 SLI support one just got fixed the other is deep in the engine and needs further investigation and we are trying to find time to address it so that we can turn it around to Nvidia and hopefully.. finally.. get our SLI profile resolved.
So almost there but I'm not making any promises on time frame other than as soon as we can get it moving again. Again sorry for the delay we are just as keen as you to get this one resolved it is not off our radar".

Needless to say do not get your hopes up on SLI being supported any time soon

like i said, i'd be fine if they could just get DX11 to work while it is enabled even if the second card goes unused. DX11 is WAY clearing to look at than DX9 but when you start loosing assets all over the place, gets kind of hard to play. DX9 always looks kind of washed out and 11 just looks crisp, I can see details better and pick out targets easier than the muddy dx9 visuals.

I only have an i5-2320. Also trying dual 980s probably would net better results at that res than 4. I have seen many games that not only don't benefit but are gimped by adding those extra gpus and making them try to use that horsepower.

EDIT: Settings all at maximum for 1080p. DX9 though because MWO gives me micro stutters with DX11. I can run Crysis 3 on max except AA and get similar fps. With AA at max my fps drops to 30-40s. My cpu will be getting upgraded to a 4770k and OCed but until then this little i5 works fine for games.

The more cards you apply to SLI on MWO the more CPU the game will eat up. See for yourself.
