Okay, now that we've all had some time to look over the mechs in the game and their performance in the October Road Map thread (linked below), it's time for those of us who actually ENJOY some Tier Five mechs to admit it. :D

http://mwomercs.com/...13#entry3827513

So, if you have a Locust you like, or consider the Dragon perfectly playable, you can join our little support group and not be judged.

I'll go first:

1) Yes, I own an Awesome... Okay, TWO Awesomes... And I like playing them, despite them having a profile of a barn door and being hit by every shot fired at any angle across the map. They still make for decent fire support, and are solid LRM mechs with 15 tube volleys on most of the chassis. The key is to hide behind TWO assault mechs since you're too wide for one of them to protect you.

2) I also have TWO Thunderbolts... not just the free one... and I enjoy playing them as well. They actually play rather like baby Awesomes. Both suffer from being oversized with odd hardpoints, but both can put out good fire support. The Thuds can either mount a pair of decent LRM's or a single LRM and a high-mounted energy weapon, such as a PPC, which isn't bad. Truthfully, I was surprised to see them at Tier 5 - I figured they'd be at Tier 4.

3) I still love my little Hunchback 4G, despite it officially being terrible. A pair of machine guns fills in the extra ballistic slots... too bad triple AC2's is no longer viable, as silly as it was.

So, those of you who proudly own and use Tier 5 mechs, please share your stories!

I just finished eliting m SDR-5k and I just got the com-3a. The spider is great once you understand machine guns. Just look for targets with open internals swoop in and saw off the exposed component. And commandos are just fun doesn't matter which one you are running. The 3a with 2-srm4 and 2-mlas, nice and fast. I like to sneak up real close hit them with the 26pt alpha and run away laughing.

I have no problem with the HBK-4G or the GI, but I'm looking forward to the quirk buffs anyway ;)

I will admit that the 5N is not my favourite Dragon but it's perfectly servicable.

And I've never driven a Thunderbolt or a Locust (even though I own all of them :/ too many 'mechs, not enough gaming time) though I suspect that that's about to change.

IS Tier 5 'mechs + quirks FTW.

I own four Awesomes. Not one of them is the 9M.

Hunchbacks are my favorite medium chassis. I run my founders 4G, 4H, and GI regularly.

I have all the Tbolts. Thuddin' ain't easy, but it's rewarding!

I roll in my grid iron all the time. I worry its going to get gauss quirks. I'd never run a gauss. Hoping for lasers and lbx.

Recently got into Awesomes here, and I was underwhelmed by the missile boat variant. But then I got into the Q and the V, and they are some of my highest scoring mechs :)

I run my Q with a standard 300, 4 ppc's in the shoulders and a ML on the head for backup.
My V has a standard 300 as well, 2 LPLs and 3 srm 6 with artemis, and it absolutely wrecks things.

As long as I don't get caught alone and am not the first person to engage, I consistently deal 500 damage matches. Very, very happy with the Awesome, and will be even happier after the new quirks for it come in!

Spider 5V master-race.
Hilarious because you never see them, and also because JJ's are not in the gear list.

The 5V's quirk should be 200% leg strength ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

It is almost scary how many teir 4/5 mechs i own and love, out of my 30 bays.

Lights,

Raven 2X, boating lasers with some missile punch backup.. hit um hard and fast, and run like mad! I also love the 4x (tier 4) I almost bought 2 commandos in tier 5 yesterday, but instead bought a module. guess commando's are tops on the list next month, Happy birthday too me!

mediums,

cicada 3C, (love this mech to death!) a super fast mech with an AC-10, what is not to love?

HBK 4G, the mech i learned on, and dropped over 500 matches before starting another 3 mechs. Pretty shocked that the 4SP is tier 4 too

Wolverine, 6K.. Ok, this one i like, but i found it lacking in some ways.. Still a beast if you can get the drop on someone. I find it odd the others are considered teir 4, as the 7k is my best mech..

Heavy

Thunder bolts 5s, and 9s, both i enjoyed, but my favorite is the 9SE (tier 4) Played these last winter, and had a ball with um. Played um like the fast lance support they are, or Cap escort.. fun, fun fun!

Catapult C4, this one i like less than my C1, which is my favorite catapult, which is another teir 4.. How anyone does not like dual LRM 20's is beyond me.. well maybe on the receiving side, but over all it is a good mech.

Dragon, 5N.. a mech i love, and played my first 100 matches on...Dual LL's with a gauss.. You are in snipe mode, and never have to worry about heat.. not to mention it moves right along.

I gotta laugh, the only tier one mech i own is the CTF-3D, but i like the 4X better,, (tier 4) out side of that only my stalkers are tier 2, and a couple other mechs i have are tier 3, but i rarely play.. I really wonder how much my favorite mechs are going to improve!

makes me feel alot better about my KDR, now i know i am playing all the worst mechs in the game :P

Thoroughly enjoy playing my Foondaboolts, Locusts (really, I LOVE these crapcans), Awesomes, Dergs (been a long time - sold them because I needed money, sadly) and what have you. Haven't touched my Clan mechs in weeks (despite being a Clanner at heart) because I'm getting my Awesomes mastered with a friend. Most fun I've had with the game in a while!

And Thunderbolts aren't bad! THey just look sad. And they're kinda wide. And huge.

Time to repurchase 5N and 1N Dragons,i hope the 5N gets gauss quirks instead of AC2 ones.

I own three Awesomes, three Thunderbolts (Phoenix), and a C4 Catapult (LRM50, works fine). The Cicada-3C was just too traumatizing for me, I couldn't even suffer the sight of it in my mechbays.

Also, I ended up doing this with the 5S Thunderbolt the other night.

Spoiler

Can't wait for the 5S and 8Q with their quirks, already have been running those builds even before the quirks for them were announced. Fingers crossed for SRM4s on the 8V. Gonna try grabbing the Dragons when I get some money aside for them.

Its only Tier 4. Also, you haven't been playing with me if you haven't been seeing them ;)

Plenty of ammo for LRMing, can stand up in a fight once all the ammo is gone and even make occassional ML shots while LRMing. Could easily trade a ton or two for heatsinks. Gonna be one of my CW mechs.

The DRG-1C is "only" tier 4, but it's actually the mech I have the most matches in by far. It had basically one thing going for it: high torso energy hardpoints, best used for dual PPCs. And then the devs decided PPCs should be slow as heck, and now it has nothing going for it instead. I'll be really interested in seeing how they'll quirk it to make it useful. +40% PPC speed? Yes please!

I own all of the Awesome, still my favorite mech. In the right hands it can do some amazing things. I can't wait for even better quirks on it.
