Should I go for the Timberwolf when it comes out for C-Bills? Will I like it, will I do ok in it and will I be looked down upon as a FOTM noob?

This might help you answer my questions.

Ravens mastered: 2X, Huginn, 3L

I love the 2X because it's the underdog and has a nasty alpha for it's size. 3L ok, Huginn I don't like for some reason.

Shadowhawks mastered: SHD-2H, SHD-5M, SHD-2D

Don't like them for some reason I can't put my finger on.

Centurions Mastered: CN9-D, CN9-A(C), Yen-Lo Wang

Love them all espeically the Yen-Lo.

Catapults Mastered: CPLT-A1(C), CPLT-C4, CPLT-K2

CPLT-A1(C) is fun sometimes but the others is well bland.

Stalkers Mastered: STK-3F, STK-3H, STK-5S, Misery

Hated them at first but warmed up to them a bit esepcially the 3F and Misery but not my favourites.

long story short?

yes.
Whether or not you like it and/or do well in it, can't say... but I'd hate to not have it.

"Looked down on as a FoTM noob?"

feth anyone who makes such a declaration, (and who cares anyhoo? let them look "down" from their lofty perches).

But... what can I say, I'm the type who likes having all tha mechs!!.

But yes, get a Timby, by all means.

It's a pretty solid chassis. Survivable clan XL, good speed, lots of podspace, access to lighter and longer-reaching clan weaponry. Access to Jumpjets (which will soon come as "locked in" equipment on the JJ-enabled pods).

When the Timberwolf hits for C-bills everyone and their dog will have one. Don't worry about whether you will be "looked down upon" because frankly that's irrelevant.

A few reasons why you might not want a Timberwolf include longer queue times(Heavy often being the fullest weight class in the queue), cost, and if you want to fight for an IS faction in CW. If those do not deter you (for example you may be quite happy to sideline your TBR during CW type matches, or you may not even want to play CW content, whatever) then if you like the Timberwolf, buy a Timberwolf. It's good. It's classic. Extremely flexible.

I think I'm an IS guy but it looks like a fun ride and I am a casual gamer so I have no problem sidelining it and it is the Mechwarrior posterboy...

As in Battletech, the perfect mix of armor, speed and firepower. The 375XL engine makes it handle like a sports car when mastered. If you have the C-Bills, there is not reason I can think of, aside from those mentioned by Redshift, not to get one

Definitly, don't care about the cry baby's.

If you want a good mech, the Timber Wolf (along with the Dire Wolf) are excellent one.

It would be stupid to not use get them even just for the try.

the Timber Wolf is probably the best Mech in the game, as has already been mentioned it is fast and agile (for its weight) and can still carry a good weapons payload.

the Timber Wolf is fast and maneuverable enough to be fun to pilot (in my opinion as a light/medium Mech specialist)

until I started using the Timber Wolf I had never passed 650 damage in a match, and rarely reached 500 in a Timber Wolf it is not unusual for me to pass 800 damage (although I have yet to brake 900) with several honestly earned kills (where I dealt most of the damage and got the kill), 500 damage matches are common whilst piloting it.

there are Mechs which can perform a specific role far better than the Timber Wolf, however if you are after a good all purpose chassis then there is no reason not to get the Timber Wolf

It's one of the best heavies, I would get it.

You may want to try out a Stormcrow first.

Best chassis in the game. That sound good to you? (Serious question, that would be a turnoff for some).

It shoots the mechs good. Shoots them real good. Get the mech, for it shoots the mechs.

I don't get messed up nearly as often as I mess people up, but the threat is still there regardless of how good the mech intrinsically is; it isn't an instant win button, so I see no reason that you should be looked down upon for using it. Though that's just from my experience with it. Give a good pilot good gear, and that pilot will perform far greater than a good pilot with mediocre gear.

That being said, TBR certainly gives you all the materials you need to be a successful asset for your team, so long as you're willing to pilot it as a team player and not try to take advantage of a self-serving attitude that, while perhaps it can provide more so than other mechs, just isn't there in a 12v12 situation, especially one where it seems a lot of the attention (LRMs) will tend to be focused on you. And heaven forbid you're the only TBR on your team.

With great power comes great responsibility: use the Timber Wolf in coordination with your team, or you may find yourself regretting having bought it at all.

why would anyone not buy the best mech in the game right now? especially once its released for CBills.

and as some have mentioned, its not entirely the mech, it's what you do with it. I literally facepalm when I see LRM45/5ERSLas builds on the TBR

Its pretty much the best chassis in the game. Even without omnipods, they cater to very diverse builds. They've got speed, power, JJs if you want them, and can mount all weapon types with plenty of weight for firepower. Ton-for-ton arguably the best mech in the game, with the only real competitor for that title being the Stormcrow.

Be warned, I can think of three big cons for them.

1. Cost. If C-Bills aren't a worry, cool, but keep in mind that it'll cost 45 million of them just to get all three to master. For 45 million, you can get three variants of two to five Inner Sphere chassis.

2. Community Warfare. You can't use the Clan mechs if you plan to play as an Inner Sphere faction.

3. Wait times. I saw the heavy queue reach 54% earlier today. I also saw medium down at 8% and light as 7%. I can't say with any certainly, but my experience is that the Heavy class is typically the one with the most people playing them.

If you want a mech you get it. Nobody should influence your decision but you.

The Timber Wolf is probably the most anticipated chassis this game will ever have so yes many diehards will rise up to complain that their overpriced digital toy isn't exclusive anymore. Every game gets that at big releases. I doubt it will make much difference in game but the forums might have some QQ threads rise up.

Put simply just stay off the forums if it bothers you, and turn off chat in game. Generally just disabling ALL chat should solve most of your problems. That's as far as i can tell the unofficial " general spam" chat anyways.

This is one of the reasons why my Crows get way more play. Nearly instant wait times for one of the strongest mechs in the game.

My best performing mech by far (except for the DWF, which is closely behind it)

Heavy and assault queue these days can take a while tho. I prefer playing Locusts and Shadowhawks these days. They tend to get into games quickly.

It's a great mech and will likely remain one after the fixed JJ nerf comes along. The fact is, there are "top in class" mechs on both sides of the equation pretty obviously and that's ok.

For everyone who disdains you playing a Timby for being a FOTM thing, there's someone who will disdain you playing a Dragon, Awesome or any other "under optimized" mech, even after the IS quirks happen.

Play what YOU like and screw the haters on both sides of the equation.

I am 2 weeks with my TWs pretty fun but I had a chance to try them out on the test server

Clan mechs are pretty expensive C-bill wise to kit out (I started with 120 mil C-bills dipped down to 88 now I am back to 101 mil)

It all depends on your personality I am not one to buying a lot of mechs, I think I had over 200,000 XP in my Jager before I bought my 2nd one

This time I bought all three got all of them into master in six days

If you do buy some with C-bills be prepared for the Nerf machine to hit this Mech pretty hard
