Has anyone tried to play MWO in UHD 4K? How does it fair?

I've got a UHD 4K monitor incoming, and I'm wondering if I should grab a new video card (GTX 970 likely) to put the game in 4K mode.

The latest Nvidia driver enabled DSR for me, so I have been seeing how MWO performs in 'fake' 4K

I have a GTX 670 and a 3570K at 4.4Ghz, it pulls me down to the 20s in heavy action. 1440p I stay in the high 40s.

So a GTX 970 should do MWO at 4K pretty well. Don't know what you have at the moment though!

A 980 is not enough yet.

Depends on what is acceptable. I reckon you could scrape 30fps with a 970, but to be safe 970 SLI is probably required.

yeah it is a tad squint-inducing!

In game the HUD etc is fine though.

I have a Samsung U28D590D 28" 60hz 4K display that is powered by my 2 year old fx8350 / hd7970 and I average 35 fps but dips goes all the way down to 20 fps. The vid card can handle it as I noticed that I get the same 20fps dips at 1080p which is attributed more to my low IPC CPU.

Perfect thanks.

Maybe I just upgrade the whole system - get one of those fancy new X99 DDR4 builds going.

Just got one put together and booted last night.
Got the i7-5930k, 16GB ram, and a the evga superclocked GTX 980

And somehow I still can't seem to pull more 20-50 fps that my old gtx 560 ti did. And that's at 1080, much less 4k. I must be setting something wrong.
Time to play with t

Mwo isn't the king of multithreading, at 1080p you'll be cpu limited with a 980, at 4K your 980 will destroy the 560Ti.

if you don't get an Haswell-E X99 CPU at 4,4GHz, what is pretty much Water-Cooling, you wont have the same results as with a Haswell Refresh devils canyon i7 4790k.

As it is now, i clearly would w8 for the 16nm fin fet Generation of Graphic cards to se MWO in 4k. Well its not a high-speed Shooter, but 60FPS is an adress to go, so perhaps 1440p is a good resultion perhaps with some DSR/AA.

What's odd is my processor IS watercooled and overclocked. You think that would help.

All cores at very high clockspeed will be hard on air, but you can also overclock it so that it goes to 4.6 if it only loads 3 cores or something.

What monitor? remember most of the 4k monitors only do 30hz at 4k res via hdmi.

I run that exact monitor: 4k@60Hz via dp1.2 out of an R9 290.
The 970 is a great gpu but maybe not as strong as the AMD alternative at 4K in this title.

It works fine except the UI does not scale.

Performance wise YMMV due to CPU, OS, detail setting, yada

But if you are unhappy you can always run the monitor at a lower resolution until the rest of you rig/UI scaling catches up to 4K goodness.

On max detail settings? What sort of FPS? Also, any AA?

I have the 28UD590 (game mode) and run MWO at 4K all settings off/low.

This rig:
R9 290 non reference Visiontek - air cooled
i7-4790K (not overclocked - turbos to 4.4 during play) liquid cooled X61 Kraken.
Z97 motherboard
SSD
Windows 8.1

Works very well.
/-EC&P

I also ran the 290 with an i7-4770 air cooled before the DC, fps is situational but very playable on both chips as well as others with the 290; ask around.

While it is apples an pumpkins comparison: google the crysis 3 4K benchmarks (different settings, different crysis engine version, yadda yadda) and look at 970 vs 290 numbers.

I had that monitor as well. Ran fine at 4k on a 780ti with moderate settings. (2x780ti's withg SLI disabled) With the 980 you will be fine as long as you don't turn up all the particle effects which were the framerate killer for me. (LRM's especially) I gave up trying to run them in SLI for this game and I also eventually returned the monitor for the LG 34" 21:9 3440x1440 because the top of the screen would look too "dark" from my seating angle. (That monitor has no vesa mounting)

You will love the res tho if you are a fan of desktop real estate. (There are days I miss those extra pixels.) Enjoy!
