Also since you're going with a dedicated GPU you should go for FX over A8, and a corresponding am3+ mobo.

It will be quite a bit faster, for not much more than you were looking at, and last longer.

The AMD Phenom II X4 960T is also worth looking (it has the possibility of unlocking 2 extra cores for a total of 6 cores) although it's a bit harder to find these days.

What do you guys think of the amd x6 fx-6100 six core processors at 3.3ghz?
The FX 6100 is more of an equivalent to the Phenom II X4 965 for multithread applications but still lack behind the Phenom II X4 965 in single thread performance.
i will never EVER reccomend an FX processor right now, the phenoms they replaced ARE BETTER than them just because something is newer dosent make it better.

Nah, if you go with the power supply i recommended it will be fine, As far as 6870s go, I recommend this; http://www.newegg.co...N82E16814102948
Though keep in mind, a 7770 overclocked like this: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16814102993
will still be faster in highly tessellated titles, and CryENGINE 3 is known to be, at least in Crysis 2. Note that the 7770 is still $20 cheaper too. The 7770 will also get more driver improvements and use less power, so it really depends on what you're looking for in particular.

Last question, i understand that cryengine tends to favour nvidia cards, what do you think of the GTX 550 Ti, as opposed to the aforementioned ati cards?

The 550ti is slower than both by about 20-30%

And it favors the AMD Radeon HD 7000 series cards more than Nvidia cards it seems.

Either that's a mistake, or there has been some steroid use with the drivers.

Because that's another one and it doesn't really fit with the results.
And another one that's even later and more recently:

That one you posted HAS to be a mistake or something.
I see it on the website itself, and it's still there.
Had to do a doubletake and actually check the benchmarks out, cause a 7770 can't be outperforming a GTX 560 Ti. It should be slightly slower than the 6850 and faster than the 550Ti

But yeah, the 6870 is the better bet if the OP can afford it, otherwise an OC'd 7770 is a good deal.

So a 7770, 6850, or at least a gtx 560 is apparently the way to go in budget. Let the bargaining begin!
