Given they're on special for 45% off, I thought I should revisit which SHDs are most worth having.

At the moment I have the 2D2 and a 5M. Both are Mastered, so I don't need to buy any others.

Is it worth my also picking up either of the 2D, 2H or a 2K, for any reason?

2D for energy / missile boating. High number of hardpoints on the arms makes it great for Arm-users (those who like to aim with the "o" instead of the "+".
2H for the most ballistics. Single energy, fair missiles.
2K is ideal for the "Armlock" player or someone who wants exclusively missiles and energy.

Somebody wrote it in the medium section a couple days ago thus:

The formula is:
2K
2H or 5M
2D or 2D2

The 5M is better than the 2H, IMO, though, by quite a bit.

Meh, 5M is limited by fewer missile points, so it depends on what you want to do. the 5M is a great starter mech though, and is nice because it comes with a 275XL, which is useful (and I think it costs a whole 4 cbills more than just the engine at the moment).

2K is nice for the energy boating, or the missile hardpoints. I just got mine.

The 2H has the most ballistic points, and is nice if you plan on using them. I have mine currently with 3 MGs to complement the SRMs and LPL.

2D2 is the best streak boat, and not bad for missiles in general.

If you want energy slots in the arms, the 2D is the best. weakness include 2 of it's 3 missile slots in cramped places, and 1 balistic. I think the 2D2 is superior unless you need the 3rd arm laser.

I'd probably go 2D2, 2K, and either 2H or 5M. 5M might be better for the gear it carries vs it's actual performance (I made that one my Shadow Hunch, AC20 Shadowhawk).

I am aware of their relative differences ;-)

Having all 5 I find I rarely play the 2H and 5M, but I enjoy the other 3.

5M is my favorite.

2D and 2D2 are virtually identical mechs in BT.
The following is entirely BT.

Principle differences:
2D had 72 armor. (and 91 structure, total health 163).
14 SHS.
2 lasers (1 per arm).
1 ballistic (LT).
LRM-5, RT.
SRM-2 chest.
SRM-2 head.
1 ton AC/5 ammo
2 tons SRM ammo
1 ton LRM-5 ammo.
(And when competing against the meta MWO build of 2 PPCs + AC/5 with XL and max armor in Battletech, has won 9 out of 10 total matches against it.)

2D2 features:
104 armor (and 91 structure: total health 195).
12 SHS.
2 lasers, one per arm.
1 ballistic, AC/5 LT.
1 LRM-5 RT.
1 S-SRM-2 CT.
1 S-SRM-2 Head.

1 AC/5 ammo
1 LRM ammo
1 Streak ammo.

and against the MWO meta Shadowhawk in tabletop, the stock 2d2 has won only 4 out of 10 fights, due to the unreliable nature of Streaks (which absolutely WILL NOT FIRE unless you are guaranteed to hit). This has resulted in more frequent ammo explosions, essentially butchering the mech.

Funny how that works, isn't it?

I have all of them and I feel 2K is the strongest variant

2K lets you go Meta Hawk with high mounts for c-bill farming at least if you don't have an appropriate hero for it.
