Quintus Tate hiked up the collar of his jacket. The wind had a fitting bit for such a day. Was it really 8 years ago?
His father had been accused of spying for House Kurita. Then was found dead in an alley on the other side of the planet with a huge sum of money and a drug overdose.
Quintus' world collapsed. He was pulled from class and questioned for days. They released him but made clear he was not to return to N.A.I.S.. While not involved, he was tainted. After 6 months scraping by, learning to live by his wits, he managed to sign on with a freighter bound for he didn't care where.
"Where" turned out to be Solaris 7. The N.A.I.S. not only teaches their students in tactics and skill in piloting, they also learn advanced repair skills applicable in the field. Just the kinds of repairs needed on an hourly basis in the various stables.
He started using the nickname Renegato as a bit of a personal joke, being the term used to describe ancient Terran knights who had turned aside from their feudal ties and "gone native"
He got a rep for bringing back the dead, where mechs were concerned. after all this time, he was about to buy the hulk of a Jenner JR-7F. On the anniversary of his father's death.
He turned the corner and walk up to the mechbay door. "Let's hope this thing isn't complete roadkill" he said under his breath.
There in the darkness a familiar shape loomed. The Jenner was a mech every Davion pilot knew and hated ever since the Antares massacre. Knowing how to pick one apart helps you put one back together. he laughed. Soon enough, fotune would start smiling. He knew this mech. It had belonged to his Stablemaster's eldest son. The boy had run off during the last Succession war to tame the Liao and got himself scragged for the effort. And that beater Jenner sat. And sat. Finally Ren asked about it and was offered a very low price. He jumped, but also kept his head enough to ask for a few days in the repair bays to get her running...
