Poll: Variant weapon quirks (15 member(s) have cast votes)

What kind of specific weapon quirks should variant have?

  1. Add quirks that apply to specific weapons which actually come normally with the variant. (10 votes [66.67%])

    Percentage of vote: 66.67%

  2. Apply specific weapon buffs which are decided would be good for a variant. Regardless of what the variant normally comes with. (4 votes [26.67%])

    Percentage of vote: 26.67%

  3. Don't care. Just buff. (1 votes [6.67%])

    Percentage of vote: 6.67%

If mech does not have have variant with the weapon/systems that PGI really wants to buff, should they

  1. Just add buffs to some variant they choose, ignore fluff (8 votes [53.33%])

    Percentage of vote: 53.33%

  2. Make a new variant with those weapons, make new fluff (7 votes [46.67%])

    Percentage of vote: 46.67%

To me it seems silly that some quirks on variants, buff weapons which the variant does not come with. Or even the quirks are not at all from same time period as the variant. Or maybe are simply queried from someone who apparently uses the mech with some specific weapon combination.

To me PGI wants to adhere to rich history of Battletech, but on this they seem... unresolved to follow it

Couple examples...

BLR-1D, gets a L laser buff... though doesn't have L lasers and it's main gun is a PPC (The MC versio does get the PPC buff...)
ON1-K, Gets UAC/5 buff... it comes with AC10 and fluffwise is from a time period without UACs
and hero mech Grid Iron, Comes with a Gauss but the buff is for UAC5

no idea where these guys get their input from, but it must be a small pool. just looking at tier outline, stalker, one of the most popular and often used chassis's is getting buffed. while one of least and worst rated chassis' the vindicator is rated at tier 3/4, when it should prob be tier 6. was excited to hear about quirks but this is just sad. these guys really need to step back and look at the big picture. Once they can figure out tiers properly then they can consider making for example a short ranged buff variant, mid range buff variant and long range buffed variant.

i think for the start the quirks should be based on the variant, following
  • specific ballistic quirk, usually a main weapon
  • more general energy quirks (sl+spl, ml+mpl, ll+lpl+erll, ppc+erppc) , usually a backup weapon, so you have some space to adjust your setup (take normal lasers instead of pulse and get higher engine rating, more ammo, ams, combine ppc and erppc, etc)
  • more general missile quirks (all srm+narc, all lrm+streaks), a support weapon that you equip based on your capacity, all srm and lrm use the same ammo and you generally use it as a one weapon so it really should not be split
then, the ballistic quirks could be made more general if needed, or group small and medium lasers

stick with the variants (to base the signature and playstyle, but give some freedom to adjust secondary weapons and engine) as they were designed, that is why they are variants

edit: numbered list not working :(
