So........Its time to go Intel and DDR4.
Not looking to spend more than $7-800. Also not in a big hurry to upgrade, as its not really needed at this time. I will definitely be doing this in the next 3 months to a year, though.
What architecture would you buy/wait for, and why?
Purely for a gaming rig that will be on liquid cooling. I am big on future proofing my machines as well, so that should play a factor.

Haswell-E starts at the near 400 for the CPU alone, and 225+ for a mobo.
Skylake is rumoured to start rolling out in Q2 2015, so June-ish.
I wouldn't expect a huge performance leap over Haswell, and the DDR4 will still be pricey.
Also Skylake (or more accurately x1x0 chipset) might support USB3.1, and almost certainly some of the Mobo's will have USB3.1 and the new Type C connectors, adding some "future-proofing".

5820K and not too much memory if you want to stay on budget.
price/performance will be a lot better with a normal haswell 4690K of course.

Go Haswell refresh instead. You still won't be disappointed.

CPU Cooling, HDD, GPU, Case, PSU & OS would need to be salvaged from your current build.

Better get two of these (or an actual quad-channel kit). If you're going to get a quad-channel system, make it quad-channel all the way.
That raises the price to $805.

I also have a thing against Crucial, as do many other people. Not the best reputation anymore. I'd go with Corsair or G.Skill.
Oh, and the Gigabyte board mentioned... I have the "top tier" Gigabyte launch board for X99 and... not impressed with Gigabyte at all. Still only offer the same beta BIOS for their flagship that has been available for over a month. Their support of their products seems terrible and I really wish I had gone ASUS like I did with my last machine.
