The Knights of St. John is a Free Rasalhauge Republic House Unit that is currently staffing up. We need a few officers and a few NCOs to get the ball rolling, and, most importantly, we need people with an active imagination that are capable and willing to contribute their ideas on how the unit to shape itself. Those interested can contact my character on MWO "DocShradre" and I will send you a Unit Invite.

The Planet St. John is located on the frontier of not on FRR space, but of the innersphere itself. Within a jump are several Periphery systems that are well known to be hosts of any number of infamous (and not so infamous) pirate units, groups of criminals, smugglers, and even good, honest folk trying to scratch out a living outside of the "inner Sphere" St. John is home to one of the largest populations in the FRR, largely due to it's temperate, earthlike climate and temperature. Planet is slightly bigger than Earth, has a slowly rotaional period, and is located further away from it's parent star, a sun much like our own but older. It shines brighter and hotter than our own son, allowing for the location of St. John which roughly the distance the Planet Mars is from our own son. Scientists believe that the star that warms St. John and it's two moons (one moon tidally locked in the northern hemisphere of the planet and the other orbiting eccentricly ,dipping into both hemispheres slightly) will begin the process of turning into a Red Dwarf as it expends all of it's hydrogen and begins to burn Helium within the next 50 million to 100 million years. Scientists from the NAIS have set up a compound with a large observatory and has laucned two satalites that observe the sun of St. John due to it's unique flucuations attributed to the burning of the last Hydrogen. The Weather of St. John is quite mild and comfortable. The planet rotates around it's Sun Very slowly. It takes nearly twenty years for St. John to circle it's sun. It's long Wintes are mild and hardly distinguishable from the other seasons. It is for these reasons that the Planet sports a hevier than normal population for the FRR. The population would be larger ifr the soil was richer. The planet has a distinct lack of propperly araable land to cultivate. The last attempt to introduce a benign fungus that would eventually increase the richness of the soil was during the Star League era. Records are unclear on wheter or not the fungus was beneficial at all. St. John supports a manufacturing base that supplies planets with in the FRR in a two system jump radius. Everything from clothing to plastics, to industrial building material is manufactured on St. John (albeit ins relatively small quantities when compared to larger, coreward manufacturing bases) and distributed to the nearby planets. The planet also produces a critical componet in the manufacturing of the Savannah Master light hover vehicle (used for recon purposes) and is home to Terlington Auto-Pistols, a fifty year old business that is gaining noteriety through the Inner Sphere amoungst law enforcement and "gun nuts" groups alike. Industry employs fully 67% of the populace, however there is a price: Having such industry makes the planet a ripe target for Pirates and Periphery bandits. St. John is the victim of at least two full scale objective raids a year, and sometimes more. In 3037 the 1st St. John Planetary Garrison Force was commisioned, and, with helpful funding from local industry, quickly grew into a combined arms force built upon the Regimental Combat Team (RCT) model that had been used to such great effect by Hanse Danvion. As the unit grew into a full fledged RCT, and it began to take on Garrison duty assignments on nearby worlds, the unit's name was changed to The Knights of St. John and it's mandate was given: The protection of St. John and other planets immediately surrounding it from Pirates and other such agression from the Periphery.

Recently, tradgedy struck the Knights of St. John. When Refugees began to trickle into FRR space, speaking of a well organized band of pirates plundering world after world in the periphery, it was decided that the Knights would attack the pirates while they were still in the Periphery instead of waiting for them to attack St John. Three battalions of battlemechs two wings of aerospaces fighters, a regiment of both Infantry and light/Medium tanks, all Knights of St. John, were tasked to take the fight to the PIrates. All communication with the unit has sense ceased. Later it was confirmed that the entire force was destroyed somewhere in the Perphery. It is thought that the Pirates must have employed some dirty trick while the Knights burned from their Jump Points to their Landing Zones, and managed to destroy the dropships before they landed, as surely a band of criminals and pirates could not stand up to a full RCT of house troops! Colonol Maxwell Shradre (formerly a Major and chief medical officer of the unit) is the highest ranking Knight and has been given command of the Unit until a replacement can be found. Colonel Shradre Graduated from the Nagerling somewhere in the midldle of his class, so he is not unfamiler with what it takes to command an entire unit As it stands, only a Battalion of Medium and Hevy Tanks, a Regiment of Heavy Jump Infantry, and two aerospace fighters make up The Knights of St. John. The Kungsarme is scrambling to allocate battlmech units to St. John before a pirate raid seriously damges the Industry there. Meanwhile, "DocShradre" looks out towards the Periphery with a unsettling feeling.

St. John is an important Rasalhaguian world. I think that is where the name for this unit comes from. Unless they are going for multiple references?

The Knights of St.John is also in fact a real order, based in Malta, also known as the Knights Hospitallier. They were a brother order to the Knights Templar in real world history of medevil Europe and the crusades. They still exist currently as an religious order, based in Malta and with chapter houses elsewhere. It isn't too impossible to believe that in the far far future someone of British or Maltese ancestry eventually names a world St.John and with thier particularly vague and sketchy knowledge of history, someone decides to call the Military forces of St.John... the Knights of St.John.
