So if the developers send you a beta key you can play instantly unlike the founders

Is this a question or a statement?

No you can test instantly. All your progress will be lost when the reset the servers. When founders get access, they will stop reseting the servers and your progress will be maintained.

This would require a dev or someone in beta to answer.

They already stated that Founders will likely be given priority when the next phase of closed beta starts, we also get early access to the open beta. I want to access the beta right now, but I'm willing to be patient. I don't feel that PGI owes me instant beta access. Right now beta is about testing, its not a reward per say. Their are limits on how many people can use the closed beta at this stage. Should they kick out any of the current beta testers if they haven't purchased the founder's pack?

...The answer is yes, kick them all out and let me play ;), jk.

They damn well better give us a beta slot. We paid 120$ for this. Fill out your beta testers with your paying people first, then "if" that isn't enough, you can then start inviting random people. :)

They already set the date where Founders get into the beta, which means me, thee, and everyone else who bought in will be beta-testing. Right now, they got the people in that they were comfy doing the big wave of bugstomping. Then they'll have Founders who are hardcore enough to stomp the rest like us.

They also said that the servers are not to be scrubbed after the 7th. So your pre-access isn't so much a beta test as a pre-entry into the open beta.

I meant before August 7th. I was really confused about how this beta was being handled. I had the impression that there was going to be a July beta on top of the August beta. I was reading 2 different dates and finally read that the August one is actually the July one pushed back farther. So that post was my bad, basically.

The way I read it...

Current closed Beta is to be followed by another larger round of Closed Beta, which would include the Founders. That was originally scheduled for July 17th, but there was a delay in getting the necessary server hardware delivered, so the date has been changed to August 7th. There is a possibility that some additional beta keys will be sent out, maybe, before the 7th. And it was said that IF there are anymore keys sent out, they would probably try to draw them from the folks who were early purchasers of Founders Packages. After August 7th, the servers will not be wiped, all founders have access until the official start of Open Beta.

Forgive me if I have any of that wrong.

more beta keys will probably end up going to Founders customers and not randoms (they can't invite all the founders early, but this may be the end of randomly assigned beta keys)

Right now they are in Atage 1 of the Closed Beta. This stage is maxed out, so you won't be getting in (founder or not).
Stage 2 of the Closed Beta is going to take place around the middle of next month. At this stage they have added new hardware, ect and can add many more testers. In fact part of this stage is to try to push the hardware to it's limits to see if the system will be able to handle the release of the game. This is often called a stress test. Founders will probably be given priority for access to this stage, but it isn't guaranteed (when you purchased your founders pack they never promised access to the closed beta). Points/money earned during the closed beta will be deleted at the end of the closed beta (this isn't the full game it's just for testing).
Then on Aug 7 the Open Beta starts. Only founders will get access to the open beta at this stage, non-founders will get access probably a week or two later (they haven't confirmed the date as far as I'm aware). This stage is still a beta, but they won't be deleting your c-bills, mechs and xp, so its essentially like they're releasing the game (except their will be bugs and not all features will be enabled), this is often called a 'soft launch' and usually only occurs in F2P games (other games simply consider this a 'beta', and for many of you who say that you usually get access to the beta stage of games when you preorder this is actually the stage you are referring to).
The actual release of the game will probably be a few months after Aug 7. Of course this won't mean much, except that at this point the devs feel that the game is pretty much bug free. I hope this helps clarify some of the confusion that people have over getting access to the beta.
