Greetings!

So, I'm in need of some brainstorming.... Upgraded the CPU and GPU in my rig the other day. Re-installed windows. Since then, my system will randomly hard lock while playing MWO- and only MWO, causing me to reset my system.

Specs:
P8Z77-i Deluxe
i7 3770k
16gb RAM (Crucial Ballistix Tactical Low-Profile)
PNY GTX 780 OC 3GB
Samsung 840 Pro SSD
Silverstone SFX 600w PSU
Custom water cooling loop

What I've done:
Memetest + Windows Memory Diagnostics
Prime95 + Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool
Monitored temp under 100% load (<60c on CPU/GPU)
Updated BIOS to latest revision
Updated nVidia drivers to latest revision
Updated Realtek Audio drivers to latest version
Updated SSD Firmware to latest version
Ran MWO Repair tool
Played Supreme Commander for >1 Hour
Unigine Heaven - 1hour - Extreme settings
Furmark - 1hour

I'm at a loss. Previously I had a 2700k and a GTX 760 in this rig on air, and even with 'overheating' the game ran fine- No hard lock.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. If you need more info, please don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks!

If you run unigine heaven does that hardlock after a while?

I have had a bad OC hard lock.. I have also had overheat cause hard lock (CPU), and video card/onboard video.
ALSO: incomplete coverage for Waterblock caused memory on Video card to overheat.. Lock up.

This was a while back, MWO wasn't around then.

Just finished running it for a solid hour, while watching a 1080p movie. (gogo gadget bluray)

No locks. GPU temp is hovering around 52c, CPU @ ~55c (average of all four cores)

Doesn't sound like overheat lock.. Unless the Northbridge/Southbridge is out of control.

That's very true. I've run Furmark and Unigine Heaven to try and recreate the conditions I experience while playing MWO. I've yet to have a lockup outside of the game though. It's quite odd. Thanks for the info though!

Yeah, loaded up HWMonitor to check on that as well- Nothing above 50c. Pulling my hair out right now. haha

i'd get some temp monitoring for the gpu and cpu, highly unlikely but memory may be a cause if its too hot. get some benchmark software for the cpu and a separate one for the gpu and run a torture test on each of them separately

testing the memory would be my next step, faulty memory does cause lockups and strange things, then hard drive may be an issue but generally smart catches the problem as well but doesn't hurt to do a scan on it.

worse comes to worst, i'd probably reseat the connections.

since you've already done a reinstall on windows its pretty much the only thing i can think of

Good idea, except this isn't 'screen freeze' as described. It's a total hardware lock. Symptoms are a bit different. This is also a fresh windows install, so that procedure has been followed already. Thanks though!

when MWO locks up
is it really completely random

or is it random:
- on level load
- returning to mechlab
- getting hit by ac20

you still have the old hardware lying around?

a swap of the graphics card or cpu shouldn't cause a reinstall necessarily, though its a nice thing to do sometimes :D
I'd try the nvidia first
as I would have to get the whole board out to get the cpu cooler off

I'd like to say it's generally happening in conjunction with some sort of sound coming from the game. I get that sound repeat type of lockup. I'll have to load up and try it a few more times to know more.

I do have the old hardware laying around. I'd more or less have to gut my machine to put it in though- Water block on the GPU / CPU with fairly short tubing. Hoping to avoid that. XD

maybe messed up file?
bit big, but maybe repair MWO install, re download/reinstall MWO again?
or at least move/remove a few pak files from the MWO folder; like sound.pak
the patcher would have to re download them again

couldn't you put in the old card in another slot and attach the cables on it;

and deactivate the primary card in the bios?
though settings are different from board to board, vendor to vendor

at least you could deactivate one of the cards in windows

i'd attempt to play the game without sound and see if it hard crashes

Can't put two cards in this box- Mini-ITX rig.

Already ran repair tool. Uninstalled, deleted game folder and reinstalled. No effect.

Changed DRAM speed from 1600 to 1333. Seems a bit more stable- Not sure why that is- RAM/Motherboard are rated for DDR3-1600.

I'll keep running the game to see if I can reproduce the issue after changing the RAM settings.

Nah, I'm using the onboard Realtek controller.

but you still installed them?
after all it comes with the nvidia driver package

timings?

might wanna check manually if the timings are correct

my xmp profile sets timings and frequency a bit too aggresive (I increased my BCLK speed)
