Just thought in relation to Mechwarrior and similar games that some like me may like the older types of ships in a game called NAVAL ACTION.
Requires DX11 though. The open beta is due in a few weeks to a month for pre-order guys

You get to command one ship only and either play in open world or I think perhaps single scenarios or PVP/PVE battles.
Ships are individually customisable I believe.

What as a tester I am excited about is that you get down and fire ranging shots from deck level before releasing your broadside.
 • Can turn on and off individual gun decks and fire them in any order
 • Can allocate the crew to prioritise different task
 • Control the mast sails individually or auto
 • Contol the helm\rudder obviously along with the speed of the ship
 • Weather such as fog, storm seas among others
 • Choose round types like roundshot, chain, grape\shotgun sort of shot
 • Forts and I think other land things like ports and the like....
 • IIRC game tracks every ball fired and damage like smashed cannons and leaks or sail damage/masts falling off etc are all there.

The ships are pretty much replicas of famous real ships.
So far seen are the HMS Victory (over 100 guns), USS Constitution(heavy super frigate 44 guns), HMS Tricomalee (a match for the USS Connie?), cutter, brig, mortar brig, Yachts, HMS Surprise (Russel Crowes ship in master and commander), Bellona (74 guns).

Here are a few shots of me testing. Enjoy and see you in MWO when my ping improves (MWO only is having a problem and I am getting 1000 to 4000 ping. My other games are fine. Probably exetel! :( ).

Anyone who loves Hornblower and 1700 - early 1800 age of sail ships might like this one. It's kind of unique.

P.S. I hope this is the right place to post. If I am breaking any rules just let me know.

Trooper, did you play Pirates of the Burning Seas ? The 'look' is very similar. Best game that never made it imho.

I did not play POTBS but I know the devs did and are intent on stopping some things that happening in that game like multi boxing to cause blocking and ganking.
I am more of a simulator\wargamer than a RPG fan. POTBS from the videos I saw was:

* Cartoonish characters
* Auto fire cannons... I like aiming and sighting my own cannon
* Pirate centric with pirates building nations (WTF)
* WOW style damage numbers floating up magically
* No real attempt at historical accuracy

POTBS was at the wrong end of scale from my interests basically. I am not one of those pirate hero types.
I am more a historical naval fleet fleet type.

Wouldn't disagree with your comments actually, but the ship to ship combat was gripping.

Ahhh fair enough. I wonder though if it is as gripping as Naval Actions. If you were properly attached to your ship and the consequences of combat perhaps it was.... although naval action is one of those games like this that is intended to keep adding features over the long term. So we don't know exactly where we will end up.

Assassin's Creed: Black Flag did the naval combat so perfectly. I mean, I know it's not accurate as far as a sim, but the gameplay was spot on perfect. I need to go play that game some more.

Wow, I saw this game ages back and holy moly it's come a way. Is this the same one being developed by the same guys/same publisher as Ultimate General?

Either way, looking forward to seeing more. I love the sim side of things and there really hasn't been much of a modern 18th/19th century naval sim for ages. Empire was fun but... not quite the same. :P

Yep it's by the game labs boys from ukriane. Same one.
By the end of the month pre-order guys will be duking it out to test the ships.

As for Black Flag. I loved the sea shanties but would not have been able to stand pretty much the core sailing, in videos it looked like a motor boat built purely so people could play out hollywood movies on their computer. Everything else looked alright apart from being very "captain jack sparrow fantasy" in nature.

No problem.
I cannot play mech atm due to some strange routing issue sending my ping over 4000.
Never had so many issues with a game!

So doing my test duties instead on naval action :)

Good day Captains.

We are planning to start inviting pre-order buyers to Alpha Sea Trials this week (worst case beginning next week). Please register at our forums if you have not done so yet. Please remember that our game is DX11 only - so it is maybe time for a video card upgrade.

What does FPS stand for in this game? First pirate Shipper?

Maybe it would be more of a FPC (First person cannoneer)

Greetings,

FPS = Frames per second
More is better.

Never mind, a different reference, for the same initials.

I just put FPS (first person shooter) to differentiate it from RTS games which are many units in top down view.
Where this is your own ship in what feels more like first person view.

P.S. I am really hoping that pirates do not turn this into another gank game. I prefer to fight navies in larger battles or nation vs nation small battles rather than play cartoonish hero type pirates. They existed but their power is far far exaggerated in most movies. A little like rappers are somehow cool. So are pirates. But you would not have thought so if you lived back then.

Greetings,

There's a few still images of what the graphics look like, are there any video's of the gameplay or even testing different types of ships?
- Even doing a search for that title shows no videos, and just a lot of 2009 to 2012 old game videos.
