Light: First Choice ?

I'd like to buy a first light mech, since it's the only weight class I don't play yet. Before the quirk patch I would have bought blindly a firestarter or a jenner but right now I'm no so sure anymore.
So I'd like to know what light chassis you'd advice as a favorite choice, taking the quirks into account.
I am not rebuted by stiff learning curve. The only criteria I'd have is that I'd prefer to go for a chassis where there are several good mechs (not those "One mech chassis" like the thunderbolt) since I'm not really into playing mechs I don't like just in the sake of eliting a chassis.
Thanks in advance !

I'm still having pretty good games with both, though some of the quirk builds are worth it imo. Going either Jenner or Firestarter will yield many good variants and builds.

RVN-3L is great for long range poke with 2x ERLL.
If you want a chassis that has several good variants go with the Firestarters.

The Raven 3L is my favorite light but all the other variants are disappointing.
Can't comment on firestarters as haven't used them yet but they seem very hard to kill.

Maybe you should wait for quirks revision, I don't know if it's going to stay like that.

The Quirkening has turned the Huginn into a dual SRM4 monster. If you can sneak up behind an assault in one you can burrow though its backside very quickly. The key is in the quirks though so if they get dialed back it won't have the same potency, but considering it's a hero mech only available for MC it might be less likely to be dialed back.
If one wants to master the Raven, the 3L is the ECM long range killer, the Huginn is the dual SRM4 backstabber, and the 4X is the audacious AC20 or Gauss Raven (though it can also have more modest, reasonable builds).

I am currently having a blast running a stock COM-1D, and you learn how to use cover very quickly when you enter battle with 96 armor.
I don't know what a KDR on an ELO is, but if you want some cheap thrills, try Locusts: 1E small laser boat, 1M w/ 2med lasers 2 srm2, 1V w/ erllas and mg's.

You could go with the good light brawlers, Jenner and FS.
Or, you could give yourself the thrill of a lifetime and run a Locust!!!
Think of Commandos as a Locust with 3 extra HP.
Ravens are for the Snipers
Kitfox is you do Clan.

Jenner is not a brawler, but more of a striker made for quick strafing runs. The hitboxes just do not stand up against a Firestarter's in a brawl.

For IS lights
Locusts and Commandos are not the best lights for people new to them, as they are a bit too unforgiving to mistakes.
Raven-3L and Spider-5D are both good mechs, but mastering them will require playing the other variants which range from fairly meh, to terribad... (not counting the heros, which are both decent)
Jenner and Firestarter are probably the way to go as all variants of each are quite solid. Both get Jump Jets, and have a plethora of energy hardpoints, with some variants having missile (Jenner-D/K) or ballistic (Firestarter-H) hardpoints for back up.
For Clan lights, it looks like Kit Fox is the way to go for the foreseeable future (above the Adder and Mist Lynx).

Edit: After looking back at some of the quirks for the Ravens, it looks like the Huginn and the 2X might not be so bad mastering now.

Yep. Not a serious question, really. Buy the A, H and any of the others. The Ember is probably the third best now, but likely not worth paying for just for that.

Less forgiving, I'd say. Not as many of the light advantages and not that much tougher.

That said, think about how you want to play.
If you want a fast moving brawler that can take on just about anything one on one, Jenners and Firestarters still represent the top-tier of IS lights. They are both solid performers overall with many good variants.
If you want a sneaky high damage back-stabber pick the Commando.
If you want to snipe and harrass at range pick aRaven.
ETA:
Otherwise if you're a masochist or just want a challenge pick a Locust. As much as I love driving my Murder-Bug. The Locust is very much a specialist's machine and not something I would recommend for beginners.

Trust me, try the 1V with an ERLL... You'll be hooked.

Locust first because I feel that there is a lot of hate and love around this mech and I want to try it. Plus it's as light as light can get. Plus it offers some variety (small lasers harasser, ER large laser long range harasser). I had some games with them yesterday evening and it was a blast.
Then the firestarter for the sake of 8 small pulse lasers.
I'd simply like to know what modules I should get for both those chassis ?

Maybe a UAV or sensor range booster.
For weapon modules, cooldown and/or range for whatever weapons you are carrying. The bad thing with so many different variants using different weapons is you'll have to buy different weapon modules for each, and they cost a pretty penny.
