It is said that this tool can fix some Performance Problems when Users increase the Timer Fequency playing Games like Crysis 3 and Farcry 4 and others:

Feel free to experiment at your own risk!

Good news! I can test this all next week and provide results.

Before I forget, again: http://forums.guru3d...ad.php?t=376458

Maybe not such a hot idea under Win8.x

Most Win7 and Win8 installs use 1.0ms by default. I tested the effectiveness of this tool on MWO in my performance testing thread and there is no difference between 1.0 and 0.5 performance-wise.

But Win8.1 has a way more intelligent system for setting the number then previous versions, so if you were testing in Win8.x, you might not have had anything to see …

The system I tested with was Win7 64-bit Home Premium. My new laptop has Win8.1 on it, and I was going to do a performance breakdown, but I didn't have enough time. The timer is pretty similar, but yeah, the basic idea is that with Win8.1 its useless. The system will adjust the timing as needed, and it isn't bound to make many mistakes.

It seemed to help on Nehalem and Sandy Bridge, so maybe that's the issue …

...or its just a simple program and you can simply put 1.0 back in... its not a conspiracy, I promise.

Goose - the processor isnt what matters. It's the OS timing.

I dont have hard numbers yet but after 1 night of messing around with it, this OS timing thing seems to do something positive. my 8350 and win 7 64 was stock 10ms, locking it to .5 seems to help MWO out,(want to say +5FPS on min) but need more time to run fraps log for actual 100% proof.

That's a pretty odd regular system timing. In that case, it would probably help a fair amount. How much is pretty uncertain, as I didn't purposely set mine particularly high to see the impact in my testing. You might want to take before and after tests with FRAPS, and at least 3 maps of each, so we have some level of documented data (even if the forum search tool sucks).

I am sure she meant 1.0 and made a typo of 10.
Windows is 1.0 default.
I am on Windows 7 x64 and the default is 1.0

No, The smokeyjedi Did not make a Typo. You must be the first person to make a mistake on my gender. Either that or you are upset with my earlier post, in which I explained your theory of GPU bound MWO experience was wrong.....

When I start my PC up, I launch timer tool, to see 10ms......it will jump around and down to 1.0ms when a program asks, but it will reset itself to 10ms after few seconds idle time.

I was trying to laugh.. but I couldn't.

I ended up powering up that tool again and did observe
the behavior just as you described--at 10 ms
after letting it be idle for a few seconds.

Way to man up and to set me straight.

since the day i powered this waterguzzling 8core AMD the power savings have been set to meltdown level, or ludicrous speed...........of all the things ive researched to find performance I was not deep enough in the rabbit hole to find system timing information. Shame on me.

I was correcting you on the "her" in which you addressed me. Lol no hard feelings......

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think "power plan" and "high performance" only applies to laptops? If it's a PC, there is no such thing in it's settings, not that I observed on multiple PCs so far. I only saw those options in laptops. I think power option is not visible or is disabled in computers you build yourself.

Control panel->hardware and sound->power options.

It's a windows feature.

No, Windows is in a preset energy saving mode - CPU clocks low when not used. hard drives stop spinning (causes huge lags sometimes) etc.
You can finetune this in the System Menu Energy Savng Submenu (whatever its english name is) or simply go "High Performance" mode.

PS: Hard Drives never stop when you set the time to zero.

Found it. Thanks. Mine is in Performance mode. Control panel in a 'slide out' mode doesn't have that option--I had to right click "Open" the folder where it's located in order to find it.

Hmm, mine was set to 10ms by default as well. Changed to .5 and I'll see if that makes a difference.
