Out of curiosity has anyone thought of or tried playing mwo on a Microsoft surface pro 3? Obviously you would need the top of the line version if any and a 12 inch screen would not be ideal. But is it possible?

Surface pro specs:
Hard drive size2
Solid state drive (SSD) options: 64GB, 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB
Memory
64GB or 128GB version with 4GB RAM
256GB or 512GB version with 8GB RAM
Display
Screen: 12" ClearType Full HD Display • Resolution: 2160 x 1440 • Aspect Ratio: 3:2 • Touch: Multitouch input
Processor
64GB/Intel i3 version:
4th generation Intel Core i3-4020Y 1.50 GHz with Intel HD Graphics 4200

128GB and 256GB/Intel i5 version:
4th generation Intel Core i5-4300U 1.90 GHz (with Turbo Boost Technology up to 2.9GHz) with Intel HD Graphics 4400

256GB and 512GB/Intel i7 version:
4th generation Intel Core i7-4650U 1.70 GHz (with Turbo Boost Technology up to 3.3 GHZ) with Intel HD Graphics 5000

On Intel HD graphics only? You will cry yourself to sleep, but that's about it.

It would probably be VERY damaging to the unit due to the sheer heat it would produce. Wouldn't recommend it.

Does anyone have a beefy Surface Pro 3 that would be willing to try it? I would love actual first hand observations (video is even better!) as generalities and opinions are good, but facts are better!

I have a Fujitsu T904 which is basically the same as the Surface Pro 3 (Core I5-4200). I tried it, and it's in the low double digits to single digits on FPS.

I'm playing the game on my surface pro 3 i5 8 gigs of ram for months now. Every setting on low, user.cfg that removes the cockpit glass. 18-45 frames. Some maps run stable 30+, some get some low drops from time to time, but it doesn't feel like lagging and is very playable. The graphics just look a lot worse :D

PS: I'm using an external cooling fan directly directed at the fan outlets and the body of the unit, which stays totally cool then. I read a lot about the topic, and people wrote that the components can take a lot more heat than the throttle allows them to, because the throttle doesn't try to protect the components but the hands of the user (if you are holding the tablet).

Hm less and less devices are using PCI Express ... and that's an ongoing trend ... If my surface pro 3 had thunderbolt instead of the same-looking mini displayport I would really long for a thunderbolt solution. Shame that thunderbolt never really made it to windows devices, it's a great standard (even tough expensive)

I even uploaded a video for you guys that are interested in the performance .... funnily enough the FPS went up to 35 a few seconds after my recording ... Games are absolutely playable, even if FPS touch 18 for half a second.

I use this small fan setup:

The fan is like 5-7 euros on Amazon. I just put the fan in my 10x USB3-Hub, so I can even position it in any way I want.

Something that still bothers me: When they released the 64 bit client I used it and for the first time got 45 frames top and I was at 30 mostly...so my performance had increased drastically. I don't know why, but now I'm back to the old performance. I changed from Razor gamebooster to Gamebooster 3, but I think even without the booster I hit those 45 fps. Really don't know what happened. Some people say that since CW is here FPS dropped for everyone. Is that true?

Whoa that's kinda nifty. When I first started MWO I was using a laptop and was hoping something like this existed. The only thing is I'd want the display to come back into the laptop display and having a separate power supply would bug me, but it makes sense the laptop power wouldn't have any extra room for a card on the side. Cracked me up when he plugged in the external cd drive, at this point you might as well build a pc with as much extra hardware is laying around the laptop lol

Sorry if this was a threadjack, didn't really read the rest of the posts after I saw the video ;)

Tried it on my SP 2, with HD4000 graphics. It ran at 12-14 fps, with the absolute lowest settings. It gave me a headache and I had to uninstall it.

Only on the i7,

I have a Dell 7240 ultrabook and the gma4000 is fine 34-40 fps (low settings)

I would assume the same performance on the i7 version. would not try on lower versions though.
