Just noticed that on IGPs website they have adds for some fun jobs like GM, community representative and QA tester plus others. Makes me want to move to Montreal.

Kinda wish I had continued that career in game development now instead of joining the Navy,

Hmm, I think the MWO dev team works out of Vancouver though. Good find though!

There are programs that you can get into to develop games. The F/A-18 Simulators are really fun.

QA is no joke, it's a job most people get into and never get out of.

That's not a good thing in this industry

Also QA takes long hours and is incredibly repetitive

You think you love a game, try spending 800 hours on it, not playing, but "testing"

If you enjoy playing solitaire with random cards missing in your deck and you can never play any other card games, QA is for you :)

I thought QA was all about breaking things, and I like to break things.

Think I might call a friend tomorrow and let him know about this, wonder if they want Full-Time or Part-Time employees...

The US Navy has a huge gaming system at the Joint Expedtionary Command at Little Creek Ampibious Base, and the local job training mill, ECPI and others train people for that and the gaming industry. As some would know, the US Army spent obscene amounts of money on America's Army, but then again thats the US military for you. My point is this, the US govt and military hire people in the gaming industry, you just gotta know when, where and who, and maybe do stuff you don't want to do.

I don't know how to describe my feelings on QA testing positions politely so I'll just bite my tongue and say:

You do not want to be a QA tester. I would only recommend this position if you have no college aspirations, no work experience, and you absolutely positively MUST work in the video-game industry anyway.

WHile being Navy and working on games would be fun I never finished my education and my current rate is Master at Arms, I am not sure how easily I could go from shooting people to workng on code again.

Indeed, your job is to break a wall by running into it from every conceivable angle for 2 hours, then work on the wall next to it, by the way the QA needs to be wrapped up by next week.

I should disagree on this. QA tester is a good way to move in the video game industry and acquire experience. Some QA move to dev position such as level designer and even producer. And some people like me, prefer working in QA. 5 years and I'm still enjoying that :)

QA is rough.. those folks get no love from the fan base.. yet get blamed for everything that goes wrong... "How did XXXX make it through QA??!?!" "Company *** needs to fire their QA they stink!" and other such comments on every forum related to the game.

<3 QA folks myself.. they may not catch every bug... but they do catch a HUGE amount of them..

So... Thanks Jessica!
