Phoenix Legion´s Operation "Santa´s Beachhead" was successfull.

Now we continue with "Bad Santa".

December 22nd, 3049

Brief reprieve from Clan advance falls - New Bergen recaptured, Hermagor, Dawn, The Edge fall to the Clans. Rasalhague surrounded on three sides.

Despite a spirited assault by FRR KungsArme and Merc forces that led to the recapture of New Bergen on the 19th, those units were forced from the planet all too soon. On the 20th the Ghost Bears skipped over New Bergen and took Hermagor by surprise, threatening to cut off New Bergen from resupply. Several units opted to give no quarry and remain behind, while the rest retreated to the next defensive line. Phoenix Legion, only recently repaired from their earlier fights for the planet, was one such unit who left several members behind.

Meanwhile, the Wolves began their push anew into FRR territory, but were blunted by the fierce defense of the Comstar Irregulars at Leizen. On the 21st they counter-attacked Lovinac and took the world from under the recovering Wolves. However on the 22nd the Wolves took The Edge, and prepare to make another bid for Lovinac.

As it stands the Ghost Bears's current push, with the recent capture of Dawn, splits the FRR resupply line in the 1st District. It will be increasingly difficult for the FRR to mount a defense in the area as the Wolves and Bears move to cut off 10 worlds and envelop them in a pincer.

Steiner and DCMS lines stable - for now.
Meanwhile, in the coreward Districts the treaty with the Kuritans still holds, while tensions with Steiner have dwindled over recent days. Word is however, that renewed Wolf offensive comes from a deal Steiner military strategists cut with the Wolves, in where the Wolves agreed not to press their worlds in favor of the Republic. KungsArme units have been outraged at the insinuation of such a sellout maneuver, and some have made suggestions that retaliation may be in order.

Around the Sphere:

Smoke Jaguars break out; envelop Brocchi's Cluster on the 20th, take Hanover and Bangor following days.
Together with Ghost Bears, who have taken Jarett, Polcenigo, Garstedt, Shuyler, and Luzerne, threaten to cut off 5 worlds. Wolcott soon to be caught in the teeth of Ghost Bears and Jaguars.

DCMS losing ground on multiple fronts: Shionoha, Accrington falls to Steiner, Sadalbari, Wapakoneta, Benet III, Harrow's Sun, Crossing fall to Davion.

Marik's gains from Steiner, Davion evaporate as renewed counter-attacks devastate the front lines.

Liao's St. Ives Region falls into Davion hands. Only worlds of Ares, Necromo remain, cut off from rest of Cappellan Confederation.

Steiner world of Persistence, cut off from reinforcement, finally falls on fourth day of fighting.
--Attempting to contact Steiner units to get frontline account of battle.

This is a very entertaining way to present news. I was particularly fond of the nod to [QQ].

It is with regret that QQ Mercs must announce a 1-week leave from FRR to fulfill a series of missions for Clan Jade Falcon. They offered a lucrative contract and we also needed to test out these Clan 'Mechs we had salvaged over the past 2 weeks from Clan Wolf and Ghost Bear. A few of us even managed to refurbish some busted up war horns, so we can use them against these 2 teams when we return to fight for FRR in a week! That's right... we aim to troll them with their own technology!

Ahh well, we shall miss you, but we rejoice knowing you will still be fighting the foes of the FRR on your new contract as well as your intent to rejoin us after it is over.

Good Hunting to you all.

No Holidays in Rasalhague.

In what is being remembered as the "Christmas Offensive", or "Christmas Retreat", The Free Rasalhague Republic has seen many worlds fall to a renewed Clan onslaught, which has broken the back of the KungsArme in District One.

Listed are the worlds lost:
Lovinac - CW - 12/23
New Oslo - CGB - 12/23
Liezen - CW - 12/26
Ferleiten - CGB - 12/26
Rodigo - CW - 12/27
Predlitz - CGB - 12/27
St John - CW - 12/28
Pomme De Terre - CGB - 12/28
Alleghe - CW - 12/29
Vipaava - CGB - 12/29

Also listed are the worlds threatened, either from being cut off or directly under assault:
Feltre
Bruben
Unzmarkt
Goito
Spttal
Casere
Jesersko
Last Frontier
Trondheim
Radlje
Rasalhague

Please keep the KungsArme in your prayers as they battle this seemingly unstoppable foe, and for loved ones to return home safe.

A more detailed review of the events will come in a follow-up report, as our writers have been placed under a lot of stress with the rapidly shifting front lines.

After-Action Report

Merc Units Leave Rasalhague in waves

In a turn of events not altogether unseen, many merc units that have fought bravely for the FRR have chosen to leave and seek contracts elsewhere. The move came at a critical time for the FRR, where the fronts against the Clans had, at least temporarily, stalled out. However, with the lack of resources flowing in to defend FRR worlds, the Bears and Wolves have devastated the defenders on numerous occasions.

Some citizens blame the mercs for their current crisis, but many have seen this storm coming.

To start, the largest groups to leave, such as [CI], [QQ], [ASE], and [PHL], have been on the frontlines largely from day one. They've seen some of the heaviest fighting across multiple fronts. Despite the riches they've gained from heavy fighting, these units have exhausted many of the resources that make them capable of fighting a full strength, or even half that: [QQ] and [CI] both stated they had more operational Clan mechs then Inner Sphere. Likewise, [ASE] and [PHL] have had numerous casualties as a result of their engagements, and have retreated to safer fronts to repair arms and train new pilots.

We hope they return soon - Rasalhague could certainly use their help.

As for the rest, the fight continues on. The [SoR] is one of the few large Merc units left fighting on the frontlines, alongside the devastated remains of the KungsArme.

KungsArme Overwhelmed; unable to combat enemy numbers

The KungsArme, barely more than a decade reborn, is facing its toughest challenge since the Draconis' conquering of the Principality - and its one it probably can't win. While supplied and supported by both the Lyrans and Combine in its initial structuring, the Free Rasalhague Republic simply does not have the economic base to fight a long, drawn-out war with a major faction, let alone two. Despite their passionate defense of the homelands, the KungsArme is slowly losing the war with the Wolves and Ghost Bears. Their units fight hard, but while they may win battles on the ground, they are forced to retreat time and again due to one simple deficiency - numbers.

The KungsArme lacks the personnel and equipment needed to face down the combined efforts of both Clan Wolf and Ghost Bear, and the effects are finally showing. Frontline units are finding their supplies dwindling, greener and greener troops moved to the frontlines, and a suffocating lack of morale. The reports get worse daily, and the equally beleaguered Merc units still contracted are unable to render the support the KungsArme needs.

At this point, its only a matter of time before the entire District is swallowed.

Steiner Front Cold; no action despite lack of pacts

Sevren has quietly stood in Steiner hands for weeks now. Likewise, the FRR holds on to Orestes. With the Clans pressing in on both factions, the FRR and Steiner have chosen the Clans, rather than each other to direct their attention. But is that really wise?

The FRR has lost over a dozen planets since halting its advance on Steiner territory. Despite complete focus on the Clan Offensive, world after world has fallen into their hands, worlds that have only occasionally been recovered (only to fall again).

Meanwhile, Steiner has not only signed a peace agreement with the advancing Wolves - directing them away from the Commonwealth and towards the Republic - they've actually made gains in the recent weeks. While worlds have fallen to the Falcons, Steiner has recovered lost worlds to Marik and Kurita and began pushing to claim new worlds, some not held since the 1st Succession War. Marik has done all it can to fight off both the Lyrans and Davions, but the combined front has erased their offensive stance and put them on the defense.

The TL,DR will simply ask this: Between the Republic and Commonwealth, who is really gaining from the dead front?

DCMS Ceasefire Holds Strong

No action on the DCMS frontline has allowed both Kurita and the Republic to focus on their other active fronts. For the most part, the FRR and DCMS both have gained tremendously from not having to look over their shoulders.

Nevertheless, the fronts have moved against both factions considerably. The DCMS has lost world after world to Clan and Inner Sphere alike, and the FRR has has fared no better. In the wake of these losses, will the factions continue to stand? Will they eventually turn on each other, hoping for an "easy way out"? Only time will answer that question.

Behind the Lines

Civilians, Traders, Nobles and more evacuate besieged worlds

Dropships have been filled to bursting and JumpShip crews have been worked to the breaking point as hundreds of thousands of civilians attempt to evacuate worlds under threat from the Clans. What started as an intermittent trend has exploded into full-scale chaos as DropPorts are sometimes overwhelmed by people from all walks of life attempt to board for safer worlds before finding themselves, once again, under rule from a foreign power. On the most threatened worlds, full-scale riots have broken out on the occasion, resulting in destruction of property, arson, arrests and death. In most cases local police were forced to ask for militia support, which has responded sluggishly to the unexpected challenge; having many of their own called up to the front hasn't helped their efforts.

For those caught up in the riots, the consequences can be a lot worse than not getting a ride offworld. In the worst circumstances, those arrested have been executed via firing squad for varying degrees of charges, including inciting terror, destruction of government property, assaulting police and militia, and more. The unexpectedly harsh repercussions has cemented the violent mindset in many communities, but in others the response has been more...melancholy.

"Everyone is afraid, we don't know what to do, where to go, who to turn to." Said one man, who refused to be identified after his son-in-law was arrested with a group of arsonists. He claims his son is innocent, but the charges are still pending. "Fear leads people to become desperate, and when they get desperate they get stupid."

That desperation has only been exasperated by the Dropship captains themselves. While many goodnatured men have taken to pulling as many people as possible off threatened worlds, some of the more despicable have charged outrageous prices for their services, ensuring only the very rich or forlorn can hope to get offworld. While only rumored, various forms of slavery have been reported on these dropships, along with often **** and sexual assault.

With so little hope for some and none for far more, one can only imagine how hard it is for someone to submit themselves to such horrors, and all for the idea of "freedom".

Rasalhague Surrounded

The door to Rasalhague has closed almost completely, as the Capital World has been enveloped by the advancing Ghost Bears. While a small line of planets remain in FRR hands tieing Rasalhague to the rest of the FRR, it will not be long before those planets are captured as well, as the KungsArme has largely retreated lest be cut off from resupply.

Rasalhague is no stranger to war. It is by far the most heavily defended world in the FRR, and the best units of the KungsArme stand ready to defend her. Supplies have also flowed steadily into the planet to prepare it for defense, and with it the best hope the FRR has to stop the Clan advance.

The Elected Prince however has shown he is no fool though. Much of the FRR government in Rasalhague has been evacuated from the planet, to set up a provisional government seat on a core world of the FRR. The Prince has stayed behind to shore up morale and organize the defense. Likewise, he has also set up provisions in the event Rasalhague falls, as may very well be the case, with a Clan attack all but inevitable.

For now though, the few planets left connected to Rasalhague are being evacuated of their main military forces. Units are either moving to Rasalhague to aid in the defense, or coreward to form the secondary defensive line. Once that line closes, Rasalhague will be on her own.

God Speed, Rasalhague.

Trondheim Live Prepared to Leave Homeworld

With the Clan border so close, the TL,DR has been forced to pack up our main studio. We have said before that our eyes and ears are everywhere, and that we would never retreat - but simply put, the Voice of the Republic cannot be heard if it is corrupted or cut off from her people. Rather than be forced to comply with Ghost Bear media, or killed or removed from the air outright, our producers have decided to pack up and leave Trondheim for safer shores to continue broadcasting.

Some of our journalists and several crews have elected to remain behind and continue reporting from behind the lines. We've convinced many that they're too valuable to lose, but some have insisted they remain behind, to be the voice for those who will soon have none. We will miss them greatly.

As we board our Dropship, we take one last look at our planet. Against the black and gray skies, filled with noxious smoke from the nearby erupting volcanoes, we are graced with the view of the Trondheim sun peaking through the ash, bathing us in a stunning array of reds, oranges and yellows that reflect off the windows of the capital's skyscrapers and turn downtown into a brilliant disco of rainbow colors.

We hope to return one day, and see this image again.

For now, we ride with our generous escorts - the merc unit Skjaldborg - as they too abandon their base of operations to set up residence on worlds captured from the Commonwealth. They leave behind a sister unit, the 1st Rasalhague Dragonregimentë, who elected to stay behind rather than evacuate. May their banner continue to fly over Trondheim.

Merc Unit Ramps up Mead Production

While many behind the lines have been living in ever increasing fear, one group is using their resources in a very...unusual way.

The Skjaldborg, one of the most dedicated mercenary units alive in the Rasalhague today, has been ramping up mead production on their planet of Rastaban. Production in the past two weeks has increased nearly 80% as new meaderies are being constructed at an alarming rate. Distillery and brewery production is also up.

When questioned about the shocking increase, Overste Howe responded simply, "People are stressed. Our soldiers our stressed. You can't fight a war stressed out. Mead takes care of the stress."

While drunken soldiers may not be the smartest thing to have on the frontlines - luckily, all shipments are kept away from the frontline units and are reserved for units in relief - the profits don't lie. Even with increased production, demand has skyrocketed past the Skjaldborg's supply, and prices have only increased from there. While the Skjaldborg has managed to keep the price in the affordable range, anger at the increasing prices from the so-called "loyal" mercs has sparked on various worlds. Howe responded, "We can only keep the prices so low. We're diverting a lot of resources to keep the farms and brews up to maximum production; we've even had to pull dropships from frontline duty to transport due to demand. With so much of our unit running beer calls, its a wonder sometimes that we can even run a war.

It doesn't help that the Skjaldborg is also in the process of evacuating yours truly and investing in several "worst-case-scenario's, which Howe refused to even acknowledge.

Despite the trouble, one KungsArme officer did have one thing to say to us.

"Than-ka frea-kaing gerd fer 'da 'Berg!"

Than-ka frea-kaing gerd, indeed.

FRR Advances - Takes Sevren.
--In a blitz offensive orchestrated by the Skjaldborg Mercenary Corps, The planet Sevren has finally fallen into the hands of the FRR. The elated conquistadors spoke of their success over the planet - which has held out for over 2 weeks - by saying: "WWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOO, SJAKJALDBORRRRFFFFFFF!!!!!!!"

Ghost Bears take Radlje - surround Rasalhague.

Bruben holds, fends off halfhearted Wolf assault.

Around the Sphere:

Ghost Bears, Wolves break truce - engage heavily over planet of Gustrell.
--In a surprise offensive, Several Ghost Bear units broke a well-known ceasefire and attacked Clan Wolf on the planet of Gustrell. While the Wolves held off against the offensive, several turse words - including 'surat', whatever that means - were thrown, and continue to be thrown, between the clans. Truly a bright day for the FRR.

DCMS takes back Misery from Davion, loses Marshdale to Smoke Jags.

Marik takes back Dubhe from Steiner, renewing a counteroffensive against the Lyrans. Hold of Harsefeld from Davion landing party.

Liao loses Tantara, Ambergrist Region in danger of isolation and conquest by Davions.

Jade Falcons take Malibu, Mercenaries of the Ragequit Merc Corps deemed responsible for sabotage of Lyran defenses.
