I don't get why the V would be helpful (the lots of JJs, maybe?)
However, that tactic is solid, and shows how battles are fought. A small unit can't hold a planet against a full army. They can hold their tiny patch of it, maybe. They can't defend the whole planet though. Not when wave, after wave, after wave of enemies are dropping on it.
