Will double heat sinks be available from the start?

I apologise if this has been asked/answered already, I couldn't find anything on the search facility.

Thanks

If they are then they will be pricey.

But in 3058 practically every mech were installed with them but this is 3049.

I'm pretty sure the answer is Yes

However, mechs you buy may not come with them from the start. So you will have to generate some c-bills and then swap out your normals for doubles.

I thought it was said that they would be available. Of course, IS doubles are 3 crit for 2 heat dissipation. Need to make sure you got the room.

Normals and doubles aren't compatible so he will have to swap out all of them.

Pretty sure?

In 3049, IS did not have double heat sinks.

If the devs said double heat sinks are coming, they certainly mean those double heat sinks would be on Clan 'mechs, when the Clans come to pillage your worlds.

Mechs like the Caesar just started production in late 3048, this mech has Double Heat Sinks, Pulse Lasers, and a Gauss Rifle. Availability would be only Davion elite house units though. The Mauler Mech from the Draconis Combine was manufactured there and took part in the war of 3039 and has Double Heat Sinks as well as ER Large Lasers. So to say the inner sphere did not have double heat sinks at this time is technically incorrect. It is just availability is only for the most elite units.

Following the discovery of the Helm Memory Core and the subsequent dissemination of lost Star League knowledge throughout the Inner Sphere in 3028, double heat sinks gradually became a staple of 'Mech construction again and were extensively used in retrofits and new designs. The NAIS had double heat sinks ready for serial production in 3041

No, the Daboku made its appearance in the war of 3039, not the Mauler. The only piece of recovered tech that mech showcased was CASE which was so faulty that a light impact on just the right spot would force the pilot to eject, became a favorite tactic of Lyran pilots to punch this spot. However there is a ton of tech available at this time period, such as the ER PPC, Gauss Rifle, LBX-10, UAC-5, Pulse Lasers of all sizes, Streak SRM 2s, Arrow IV, NARC, TAG, DHS, ES, FF, XL engines, and CASE.

The Mauler was still in testing phase in 3052 per BT TRO 3050 (published 3052). The 3039 Mauler was actually the prototype Daboku, which apparently had something to do with the Battletech cartoon... www.sarna.net/wiki/Daboku Sounds like retconning, shrug.

The Caesar was in BT TRO 3050 and the flavor text says that its new ER PPC has yet to see any battle, so it leads me to believe the Caesar's double heat sinks weren't available in 3049. Clearly the ER PPC wasn't.

Ready for production doesn't mean produced or used. Why didn't Davion field all their 'mechs post 3041 with double heat sinks? Or the rest of the Houses? Where are all the pre-3049 dobule heat sink 'mechs in TRO 3050?

Production in the 3039 (where ComStar lent out some old SL-era 'Mechs to Kurita) - 3049 era was irregular and not universal to all houses. Kuritans lagged behind in double heat sinks, for example. Heck, the FedSuns managed their own version of DHS even before the Helm Core, but they had the small flaw of being highly corrosive to the 'Mech in question. But the DHS by 3049 was just coming into regular production across the Inner Sphere (again, with the Kuritans lagging behind but still capable at smaller lots than the others), the beginning of the mostly widely-used recovered technology in BattleMech production in the Clan Wars and beyond. In a few decades, single heat sink equipped 'Mechs will be the surprising exception, not the rule.

3049 or earlier mechs mounting DHS. Official canon production dates can be sourced from the master unit list.

Archer-5M (3049)
Axman-1N (3048)
Axman-2N (3049)
Caesar-3R (3049)
Charger-3K (3049)
Cicada-3M (3049)
Dervish-7D (3047)
Devastator DVS-2 (3048)
Hunchback-5M (3046)
Mauler-1R (3048)
Phoenix Hawk-3S (3042)
Shadow Hawk-5M (3048)
Trebuchet-7M (3048)
Warhammer-7M (3047)
Zeus-9S (3048)

This is definitely not an exhaustive list, but the point remains they were on production model mechs before the clan invasion.

Double HS started to become common about the time the game is set. My guess is that they will start with limited avalability and become easier to find as rather rapidly. I hope so as they make the laser variants much more effective! Considering the purple eagle that should not be much of a surprise!

Thank you for the above post Squigles; my only point was that IS Double Heats did exist in this timeframe, albit they were rare.

Double heat sinks were the worst error made in FASA's profit-driven debalancing of the TT. From this point on, every optimal light/medium mech is a laser-boat.
