I agree with most of that Odanan, apart from Sized Hardpoints.
I don't feel it's an elegant solution.

I'd replace Hardpoints with a Mass Point system, as I've mentioned before.
(Each weapon gets an Energe / Ballistic / Missile Mass Rating (in addition to its Tonnage and Slots), and that determines the Mass Rating of each component by its stock loadout.)

What about the "Keep it simple"? I find the simpler solution the more elegant...

2 sizes of hardpoints (large and small) would be easy to comprehend and would give enough diversity to the variants (while keeping them closer to the lore).

Just Large and Small is better than S/M/L, but then you still have Small Ballistic, Large Ballistic, Small Energy, Large Energy, Small Missile and Large Missile (6 categories), with the 'standard, you add Medium Missile, Medium Energy, Medium Ballistic (9 categories). Every weapon needs a determination of what makes it Small / Large (and some will be slots and weight, others will be role, etc, and that will vary between Ballistic / Missile / Energy).

This would mean the Atlas D would have something along the lines of:
1 Small Energy
1 Large Ballistic (possibly 2, due to the HP inflation it has)
2 Small Energy
1 Large Missile, 1 Small Missile
1 Small Energy

The Mass System is simple and robust.
A simple equation determines Mass - Roundup((Slots+Tons)/4,0), and this is a straight forward metric for all weapons.
Then it's just Energy #, Ballistic # and Missile #.

So the Atlas with this system would be:
Energy M1
Ballistic M6
Energy M2
Missile M6
Energy M1

And that's just the Atlas.
Something with a larger variety of stock weapons, it becomes even more apparent, as rather than multiple different sized Hardpoints and weapons, it's a simple number rating for each.

I got a surprise coming for most of you guys here soon ^.^

Also, anyone know where the Clan Hero Mech concepts went? Someone made the mechs using photoshop and mechlab stuff.

NVM found it!

I mean, we have enough assaults, too.

Javelin it is!

It's simple: every mech should have a role.

The role of a JagerMech is to stay behind, sniping and laying fire support

And here I thought the JagerMech was put in to allow people to shoot down that annoying Aerospace Fighter that keeps laying down airstrikes.

Perhaps, as far as number of chassis goes it's Lights<Assault<Heavy<Medium

As far as unique chassis go, no. Heavies and Mediums are tied for 20 chassis. For unique chassis:

Lights - 14
Mediums - 20 (fun fact, there's almost as many IS Medium chassis as there are light chassis total)
Heavies - 20
Assaults - 17

Now, for variants it becomes a very different landscape. Even though there's only 3 less chassis of lights vs. assaults, when you look at the variant counts our light-starved state becomes even more apparent (not counting -S- or -C- variants since they're not different from their standard counterparts in the sense of load outs):

Lights - 61
Medium - 108
Heavy - 92
Assault - 99

It's interesting to look at the fact that while we have less Assaults than Heavies or Mediums, each Assault comes with so many variants that we actually have more unique Assault variants then we do heavy variants, albeit not by much. However, lights are 31 variants behind the next closest variant count.

EDIT: Another fun fact that I forgot to mention . . . at our current rate of 6 variants per mech release (3 standard + 1 hero + 2 reinforcements = 6 variants per modern mech release) that'd be 5 light chassis that would need to be released just to catch up with the pack as is; and that's not including the other chassis (all non-lights) that haven't even been released yet but are announced..

Eh, I think next mech had a chance of being something HUGE! I do not think we will get a November announcement, because it's so close to Mechcon. With how much hype they are giving Mechcon, I expect several mechs to be announced there. These probably I assume would include popular and demand chassis. Maybe some being from the future a bit. I don't see them dropping little known or unpopular mechs here. That's just my opinion on the matter though.

I was pointing out how he's hypocritical because I said this was his exact role as a light and he told me I was wrong. Yet here he's saying pretty much why lights are how they are.

Ah, Imperious attempting to justify keeping Lights in their current state. Cute. FYI, if Lights are only allowed to do the roles that YOU think they should be doing, then all Assaults are no longer permitted to move faster than a Direwolf and should be locked into the role of "Gunwall", because thats what Assaults are for. Oh wait.....

On the top. My guess is the paneling for the nose is either supposed to be a groin window or paneling for cameras. Were the cockpit to be in the nose, it'd have to be the size of an atlas, or have a smaller set of viewports than any mech in the game. Locust would be considered spacious compared to that.

Either way, it looks nice. Shame it's not exactly viable in this game.

I'd say the nose. The Assassin is known in lore for having one of the most cramped cockpits, so much so it causes back problems latter on in life.

The larger window.

I like how this concept art makes people scratch their heads about that subject, just like the original one.
