Thank our lucky stars that this is not suppose to happen for 20 games years. Right now we sit thinking all is well playing our alternate timeline and building our house into the best house in the Inner Sphere. So I for one will not worry about what ifs or what will be, I live my game life for the here and now.
Just my two cents, but it's a good question on your part.
We need more talk and interest in our house rather than silence.

I reject your reality and subsitute my own.
These options I will strive for, however if the fall of the FWL comes about in MWO then so be it, it will be some time off, and in that time we shall hone our skills and give the rest of the inner sphere something to remember.
And after the fall(if it comes) we shall still have our skills.

Your leader may be a fake, but in this particular era (3025-3049) there is a few things to be proud of.
You haven't started any major wars (Except for a civil one).
You haven't committed any serious atrocities.
You haven't committed any major acts of treachery.
Your primary leader hasn't gone insane.
In the Innersphere, leader ranking isn't based so much on how many great things you've done, but rather how few really bad ones.

However, I still prefer ignoring the written future, and making my own!

When all the ashes settle, I'll still be sporting the purple eagle. Jessica's not bad, and damned if I join up with the Regulans after serving the true house Marik for all my life. I'll take loyalty to "not bad" over turning cloak for a little bit better.
You want something to look forward to? As the rim collapses House Steiner will set up for a landgrab.
Nothing unites the FWL like an invasion from outside.

"Wrong?" Nothing. Its only 3049, and I will gladly fight beside Regulan units. <S>

Not so different from modern day, when you really think about it. Most of the troubles in the world come from someone or a group of someone trying to make their mark in history, and the intended and unintended consequences that derive from there.

No Empire (or FWL for that matter) stands forever. The Federated Commonwealth is going to get shredded before long, the militaries of both House Davion and House Steiner torn to pieces.
If we're being total fortune tellers on the plotline, the FWL does go away, but fast-forward a generation or two, and it comes back! At least that's what the Dark Age fiction suggests. Its the ulitimate Phoenix story, how cool is that?
The FWL are loud and proud, not just of the group but of the individuals that make up the group. There is plenty to thump your chest about, regardless of the era.
The last big "loud and proud" moment occurred from 3030-3040 in the Andurien War of Succession. Andurien and FWL alike fought HARD in a long and bitter struggle and came out of it a stronger nation. The invasion of Andurien was the second largest military operation of the era (3rd Succession War to the start of the Jihad) in terms of the number of troops involved (the fight on Tukayyid is #1, the Crucis Lancer invasion of Tikonov in the 4th Succession War ranks #3). I'm citing Historical: Brush Wars here.
At the end of the Andurien War of Succession, individuals in the FWL began to think of themselves more as Free Worlders, rather than Anduriens, Regulans, etc. It helped unify the realm and created the atmosphere that gave Thomas Marik the opportunity to achieve all that he did.
By our rechoning, that isn't long ago. The Andurien War of Succession ended in 3040, less than a decade ago. The FWL is full of mechwarriors who fought in that war and are still serving in 3048-3050.
So what we're "living in" the era we are playing in, is the glory days that all the bloodshed helped to create. The full impact of Thomas Marik's reign is just beginning to truly be felt, the average FWL citizen feels like the worst is behind them and a new day is dawning. The near future brings a broad economic boom of Inner Sphere proportions, and the raising of the Knights of the Inner Sphere, one of the most prestigious and most elite regiments in the Inner Sphere, which plays a role in making popular ideals of neo-chivalry across the Inner Sphere (ideas the Republic of the Sphere adopt and expand on), and the manufacture of a grand new FWL warship fleet. Not to mention we have at this time the creation of a whole slew of new military units, like the Free Worlds Legions, demonstrating that the FWL is getting more powerful every day.
By 3066 the great threat to the FWL, the Federated Commonwealth, will be no more, and with the HELP of the FWL, allies like the Capellans will have regained much of what they lost. At the same time, FWL industry will have provided the tools necessary to upgrade the militaries of nearly all the Great Houses so they can face the Clans. There's pride to be found in that. That Davion mechwarrior is driving a machine, that somewhere on it, is probably stenciled, "Made in the Free Worlds League."
You can live in that moment, take pride in it and enjoy it, or, touching back on my original hypoethetical, you can tell the Roman Legionnaire his life will mean nothing, which seems silly doesn't it?
And honestly even if you did tell the Roman that, I'd expect a sad look to cross his face, and he might get quiet for a moment, and then he might say something that would roughly translate as, "So you say, but I serve the Empire, and I will continue to proudly serve the Empire."

Except I don't think there was ever just a Lyra in the fluff, at least nothing I can find by googling >_>
How da fk do you get a Lyran Commonwealth without there originally being a "Lyra"

But in our alternate timeline I am a loyal servant of House Marik and the FWL, going where I am commanded and inspiring (at least I hope) that loyalty and respect into those that serve under me. And so I will remain no matter what this game brings
