Hi all - back from a hiatus and wondering whether basic skills are still doubled if a variant completes the elite skills tree. Thanks in advance!

Muchas gracias. As I said, haven't really played in a year or so and a fair bit has changed.

Lot's have things have changed, but mech skill trees are not one of them. They haven't been changed at all. You do have weapon/module skill trees now though!
