I'd say to use a OC program to maybe raise core voltage for GPU a bump or three.....Have heard of factory settings being too conservative requiring a downclock./

As you can see, it only affects the programs using Directx. Here is Chrome on the left and Firefox on the right opened at the same time.

Curious science point... Why would a gpu if dieing only produce problems on one side of the api divide.

Can your technician friend loan you a gpu to test in your system.
Don't alter anythibg else other than installing the correct drivers if it's a different brand.

Remove the heatsink, clean and put new thermal paste on it then reattach the heatsink. Most likely this will not resolve anything but like everything else different instructions are located in different locations on the die.

That's not what i asked.
Can he lend you a GPU to try in your machine...preferably an Nvidia one.

At this point it's almost certainly the card, but worth just being 100% i've been goggling and researching a bit this evening and a couple of references had the problem persist with new cards as it was only later fixed after nuking their entire install and beginning again

slapped a MSI gtx960 in. Problems solved. Got an aditional 30 fps on the game. I'm quite happy!
