A guide for heat capacity and dissipation

The Rules.
  • All mechs require a minimum 10 heat sinks to function
  • Engines come with 1 HS built in for every 25 rating up to the 250 engines
  • Standard or XL engine has no impact on this
  • All rates of Dissipation are given per second
  • Single Heat Sink [SHS] are worth 0.10 Dissipation each
  • [SHS] are worth 1.00 extra Heat Capacity each
  • Double Heat Sinks [DHS] are worth 0.14 to 0.20 dissipation each
  • [DHS] are worth 1.40 to 2.00 extra heat capacity
  • Invisible [DHS] are worth 0.20 dissipation and 2.00 capacity
  • Invisible [HS] are the ones built into the Engine
  • Visible [DHS] are worth 0.14 dissipation and 1.40 capacity
  • Any [DHS] manually added to the engine count as Visible
Example:
XL400 with 6 [DHS] added to the engine
XL400 with 6 [DHS] put outside the engine
Both have the same Heat Rating

Any thought of automatically calculating the time to reach maximum heat capacity for a loadout, i.e. how long a mech can maintain max DPS before it needs to stop firing? I find it useful to know if changing a loadout to lower the DPS slightly increases the mech's full-fire time significantly.

Good guide. A small thing tho, external Engine DHS are also providing the 2.00 capacity.

Smurfy's will do this for you. It even lets you adjust the individual weapons between 100% fire rate and 0% fire rate, and takes quirks into account on top of that. You just have to hit the 'Weaponlab' button at the top of the Smurfy Mechlab.
