Hello!

I'm upgrading my computer soon but I'm not sure about what's compatible and what's not. My Rig is slowly starting to show it's age with the newer games being released plus I'd like to run MechWarrior Online higher then a Medium/Low settings and still get some FPS loss regardless.

My current rig specs according to Nvidia GeForce Experience Panel.

GPU: GeForce GTX 550 Ti
CPU: Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU E6550 @ 2.33ghZ
Memory: 4.00 GB RAM (3.37 GB usable)
Current Resolution 1366 x 768, 60Hz
Driver Version: 347.09
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate

My Hard-Drive is 1TB + 500GB. What's the cheapest upgrade but still an effective one to bring my rig up to scratch? I have been thinking about getting the GTX 960 since it seems to be highly recommended and it's only £160. But I'm mostly looking for the cheapest yet most effective upgrade from what I already have.

I'm not good at computer stuff so I'm not sure what works with each and what doesn't. Any help would be great and very much appreciated!

Not sure if a gpu upgrade would help much, this game is very heavy on the cpu mostly.

Could install the program "msi afterburner" (works on any gpu), it can make a nice graph, you can use it to monitor fps, %gpu use, and also cpu use.

I reckon that at your resolution you'd see the gpu not fully used, so it'd be a better idea to upgrade the cpu, for which you will need to upgrade the ram and motherboard as well.

What would be suggested for a CPU and motherboard upgrade?

You can drop the gold rated PSU if yours is in good condition but you'll need a new psu when you upgrade the GPU

Can I get a similar motherboard or the same from a different place other then Scans? I've only had bad experiences from it when I tried to order a 1TB Hard-Drive from it.

Thank you for your help though! Really appreciated! <3

The above is a good shopping list.

Your GPU is ok to be honest. Sure it's getting old but it's ok for at least another year maybe more. Get that motherboard, RAM and CPU sorted and your laughing.

Happy gaming.

I'm not sure about the current GPU since Nvidia doesn't even update it anymore so it seems to be pretty outdated.

Keep any eye out for any versions of the 770GTX you can find. They're getting a little rare at the moment, but you can find some new at some amazing prices.

It's a great card, but like previously mentioned by another bloke, MWO is CPU heavy. You'll want to overclock that i5. I think a 4.6 GHz overclock would be lovely.

use a program called MSI after burner, or EVGA precisionX to OC yor GPU.. but seriously with a cpu mobo upgrade you are going to be mind blown at teh performance increase u get... save for a months and upgrade your gpu then, your gpu isnt as bad as you think it is
