Hello fellow Mechwarriors,

I've just put my hands on the Grid Iron, and right now i'm using it with Gauss, 3XMPLs and a XL 255.

Is the XL worth it?

I mean, if you lose the right torso (the first thing you lose 90% of the time) the gauss will explode and basically destroy your CT, so it really dosen't make much of a difference. Or am I wrong?

What do you guys think?

That's really a tough question. I'd tell you that in the PUG/solo queue, I had absolutely no problems with an XL. In comp drops, a STD engine and losing two of the MPLs may be better.

There is the answer in your question. I've pilot my GI with Gauss with a XL and with a STD.
The explosion of the Gauss will make you die with a standard anyway...

If you don't run a Gauss, take a Standard. If you run a Gauss, take an XL. The agility with an XL engine will save your life =)

This chassis is very efficient with the new quirks, it really deserve a try!

The GI dooest really have the tonnage to run the Gauss without an XL. If you try to run it with a smaller standard, you would have to use crit space on a DHS.

I pilot the GI with Gauss, 3x MPL & STD200 and I've had games where I survived my gauss rifle's destruction. That said, I would like to try switching to XL and seeing how much the mobility improves my survivability rate, but since I already do all right with it, I'm kinda reluctant to do it.

Will CASE actually stop the Rilfe explosion and not the ammo? I never tried this...assumed it only did anything to ammo not actually the rilfe itself. The ammo doesnt explode its the Gauss itself that does and they have just changed it to say so in game now. When you die it will say Gauss Rifle no Ammo Explosion if i have my facts straight.

But STD is how i run it...have no issues.

I use XL.

If you choose to, just be careful.

I run my GI a bit differently then. I did not like the GR, so I swapped it out for 2x AC5 and a crap ton of ammo. I have 2x MPL and an AMS. I did have an srm4 int here as well, but it did not gel range wise with the rest. I love the little yellow buzz saw. The AC5's are on chain fire, and are pretty much a bang, bang, with a slight delay between each to adjust aim. The MPL are for when I run out of ammo or need to get in close. In the PUG I am around 4-500 damage, with the occasional naff game when I get focus fire to my side torso and I go pop. It runs pretty cool, can snipe with the AC's or close and brawl if needed. I tried with AC10, but did not like the cool down time, so went back to AC5's. My GR's are sat in the shop.
