Hi there, I would like to read community opinion about these 2 pics.

MY Grasshopper:

PGI Grasshopper:

Can you notice the difference?
What do you prefer?

I wonder why too many mechs are too much wide and large in 3d models.

Can't see a difference...

oh know I see it, you compressed it.

I'd take PGI's version.

The 3D team seems to be made up from a bunch of ladies with a serious fetish for broad shoulders. Look at what they did to Alex Iglesias' Centurion :D

But it's too early to tell with the Grasshopper. I need to see it side by side with other mechs in the 65-80 ton range.

Yep, I have the same suspect about "those ladies" in pgi office :)

Really worried about grass' survival and viability.
Zeus: I've already expected to mount a st engine in it for its large shoulders.
But in the Grasshopper, I really would like to mount xl....

with its all energy layout, there are plenty of STD builds possibile, though.

I'd have to say the top pic. When you compare the two PGI's version looks a little absurd, like when you put a jacket on and forget to take out the coat hanger if that makes any sense

I feel like PGI's model is some blend between a Shadowhawk or Griffin and enlarged it a bit.

We'll see what it'll end up being like in the end.

They get wide shoulders because you can move the arms around, and it looks silly if they clip into the torso when aimed hard left or right.

I'm all for deviating from Battletech originals if necessary (some just look too ridiculous in original, like the Ebon Jaguar), but regarding the Grasshopper, I'm with Stefka.
The slimmer version looks closer to the original and neater. It also makes the arm weapons better to use as the more outside they are, the harder it gets to avoid shooting into team mates / terrain.
I see no reason to artificially broaden the shoulders. Apart from the girly point, of course.

I like the PGI width visually.
Your thinner version would perform better though with smaller hitboxes.

The wider torso should be fine. The Centurion has that same design issue where the shoulders are wide, and it fairs well.

Besides, maybe some of that shoulder we are seeing is actually part of the arm hitbox and not the side torso.

Hard to say until the community gets some seat time with the mech.

About Cents, large shoulders but slim torso, while Grasshopper, despite it's a 70 tonner, seems to have a profile too much similar to Victor's one.

I still have great hope in Grass, let's cross fingers
