Been trying to play MW4 Mercs but when i try to launch the game it fails to go full screen and then crashes with the error:
"Nested Exception! - Cause: 'GetLocationFromAddress'
Error: "Attempt to read from address 0x00000094" at 0x6fabaa

Ive tried everything ive seen posted about "nogui" lines and such but still nothing. If anyone knows of a work around that would be awesome!

Greetings,

Some of the older 'disk' or CD games actually streamed the movies, videos, other events directly from the inserted disk.
- The work around for that would be directing the game to use a specific location, where you have the entire game located.
- Some times as a 'virtual disk', and the game will still 'think' its from the CD.
- The original game had 2 disks, both required for installation. The second CD was were the movies and missions would stream from and normally required to be 'left in the tray' during gameplay.
(this could be where the 'Error' is from?)

Additionally those versions of the game required much older Dx installed as well as the codex for the mini movies.
- And the game resolution size was much smaller than current monitors sizes.

Your running it in compatibility mode for the win versions that were out when that game was popular?
- in 32bit mode and dx9 or Dx9c?
(it win run on a Win 7 system and in 64bit also, but configured somewhat)
- The version of 'Direct Play' it used is no longer supported by Ms. (way back in the Dx8 era)

Some other ideas:

If using the Mechwarrior-XC program:
In the Mechwarrior 4 – Merc game folder is a program called “autoconfig_MERCS.exe”. Run this program and then click on the “Advanced >>>” button.
The box second from the top on the left is where you select your graphics hardware. Make sure that your graphics card is selected here and the box is not left blank. Below that, you can select a screen mode. Although Mechwarrior 4 was never designed to run in widescreen, it actually works pretty well at 16:9 or 16:10 resolutions, with just a minor stretch to the HUD graphics, so select your monitors native resolution in this box. The “x32″ part on the end of the screen mode is the colour depth, on a modern PC this should always be 32 bit and in most cases the configuration utility will only list 32 bit modes.
The other options shown in the picture have all been configured for highest visual quality. Since this is an old game, you should be able to do this even on a relatively modest PC. If you have an older PC and find the game doesn’t run as smoothly as you’d hoped, run the utility again and choose “Graphics Settings : High” or “Graphics Settings : Medium” instead.
When you are done configuring these options, click on “Continue”. The configuration utility should now close and you can proceed to start the game.

Good luck,
