Does it seem a bit....underwhelming?

https://soundcloud.c.../warhorn-kurita

For comparison:

https://soundcloud.c...horn-rasalhague

https://soundcloud.c...warhorn-steiner

Was hoping for more of a "dragons roar" myself. What do you guys think?

I wish they had gone with the suimasen alone, something traditional sounding. the kurita warhorn sounds too synthetic at the end.

what I really wish is that they had just used this

I certainly like it, though the warhorns seem a bit... long? Liesmith's video is admittedly pretty entertaining (And suits the NKVA all too well), but I think the Kabuki YOOOOOOOOOOOOOH! would grate on me after... oh.. the third time.

The Steiner one doesn't feel terribly German/Gaelic, just generic heavy metal riff that seems like it was a leftover from the Highlander Hero mech. Heavy metal is more of a Scandinavian thing anyway, making it better suited for Rasalhague. Likewise, I feel like the Urdu/Greek elements that could have been done with the FWL were not adequately touched on.

I am underwhelmed. The "Yo"-horn would be fun and interesting, and I was really pulling for the Godzilla roar.

Marik's warhorn sounds like they are riding sand worms on Arrakis, and Davion will be reporting on sports news items.

Not good.

Stick with lunch trucks on every mech.

Thank.

The Artist who did these tracks should think twice about what he did there..
Srsly. it is called WARHORN and not Kindergarten party soundtrack.

The sound of a sword unsheathing/sheathing would also have been acceptable.

That would be a good one for the Clans. Along with Palpatine laughing since, you know, the Clans are evil.

Steiner's warhorn makes no sense or connection. Kurita's attempts to have classic Japanese traditional instrumental sounds. Rasalhague sounds little better but, on the whole, they all sound underwhelming and limp.

I hate say it but this limpness is on par for many of MWO's sound effects. Throughout the game, there is a disappointing feeling of unimpressive sounds. Most of them sound public domain or student-level. Most of the ACs, lasers, environmentals, reloading and recharging sounds are just bad. Sidestrafe has pointed this out and there has been discussions on it so I know its not just a few malcontents complaining about anything they can. When I show this game to friends they mention how the weapons do not have -any- excitement except for Gauss and armor impacts and a few others.

Back to warhorns, all of them are "meh" in my opinion and part of the general expectation of disappointing sounds from MWO. My 17yo son who is training to be a game designer gets it. You have to have awesomeness and these don't quite get there.

It's not like it's hard to make good sounds either, especially these Warhorns. I mean the Clan ones were lazy and disappointing (except my Smoke Jag one) and this Resistance pack is also lackluster and weak. It looks like they want to put their own style on sounds but don't put any effort towards making them interesting. It's like "Hey I got this good idea for a sound. Ehh do I really want to do all that? Ahh never mind I'll get to it eventually."

The Liao one is the best imo. it's the one that feels the least generic.

Gotta give credit though, I really like the sound of everything on Manifold

IMHO all IS warhorns (with exception of ComStar) do not sound very inspiring and/or intimidating.

But this is probably in the ear of the listener.
