So I see the new Descent game raised almost a quarter of it's target funding in 2 and a half days...

https://www.kickstar...ent-underground

It's almost as if the developers have a good reputation and didn't introduce fundamentally necessary core mechanics as stretch goals isn't it?

Some or all of the developers are from Star Citizen, hence the reputation.

Eric "Wingman" Peterson is heading the effort.

Err, have u read all the spoilers. Missed the founders for MWO but I don't think I'd consider any of these packages a rewarding departure of my money.

A single player aspect maybe its only + side.

Come on PGI, u can do it ^

No, they cannot. Look at how many maps they DON'T have as one indicator. If they would throw open the possibility for player created maps.........

At first I was like "Oh ****, a multiplayer only Descent remake with no robot enemies. Not even a Pyro-GX."

Then I read more, and then I was like *MASHING FUNDS BUTTON*

Yah. I contributed early with some misgivings, but once they announced the single player campaign, I was so very, very happy!

I hope the single player campaign will give you robot descriptions before each mission. That was one of the coolest parts for me - I like actually reading up on video game enemies, and knowing their names.

He's not part of CIG anymore. He and a bunch of the original CIG members left to form their own company.

I pledged to this project, it looks really good and, best part, it will not use the crytek engine.

So they mention themselves in relation to SC while they left something that is so half done, that it's mostly just a concept they participated in? not really something one should reffer to.

Don't worry PGI, I'm not leaving MWO for another game.
But as an enthusiast for games from my childhood (and I'm sure from many others' childhoods), I feel it is a community service to point people in the direction of this kickstarter for the few more hours it has left to be funded.

Descent has long been a family favorite. Even my mom and dad played it all the way through. Individually. Without us kids knowing.

To have it come back to life? More excited about it than I was about the Homeworld reboot ;)

I egt a bit tired abotu all the kickstarters.

Too many today, too many are actually unfortunately also trashy. It's nowdays too much like lottery than actually knowing what you get.

Well, there was a project called SOL Contingency wich tried to redo this. They recieved a Cease & Desist from the Licence Holder Interplay just before they were to release their beta with Interplay knowing about the project for over a year. Their artworks looked more true to the original as this official one does. It's a shame. They observed if there was a market for this type of game and then shut this fanproject down. What a shame Interplay, what a shame.

shush. If they don't know they won't shut it down.

Already happened. SOL Cont. got the C&D and Descent: Underground is the official licenced game. It's really annoying. These guys put in iirc 2 years of their freetime into the project, no plans to make big money out of this and then got shut down. Now we get a corporate cashgrab. Not buying into it.

They were using other licensed items in their product without permission as well. Interplay would have been a target if any of the other license holders decided to take a shot at the Sol Contingency folks.

Moral of the story? Secure the rights before you start using other people's IP.
