Just bought some MC and got Sparky and Huginn. I have money for Oxide or Ember, which one to buy? I have had Jenners earlier and I can master the Oxide (although I have sold my Jenners over a year ago) but I never had had any Firestarters (I had H for a little while and sold it).

So which one to buy? Or should I do radical and buy Pirates Bane and start mastering Locusts?

Oxide, without question.

The once-mighty Ember is now not even a top-three choice in its own chassis (the S is king, followed by the A and then the H). The Oxide is seen in competition, is probably the best variant of its chassis and packs a mighty punch with SRM16. I personally prefer it to the Huginn, but that's stylistic more than anything.

Oxide if you're just looking for the one mech to play and don't mind being ammo dependent.

Ember is probably the weakest Firestarter variant right now with quirks, but if you're looking to master the others, it's still a decent choice.

PS: I would not recommend Locusts for anyone who doesn't already enjoy fast light mechs. I might get a PB this weekend, but I prefer lights and already mastered three other Locusts.

I own both and i would say the Oxide is the better choice if you are already playing jenners and can master it straight away.

I own all six light heroes, and Oxide is probably my current favorite. Huginn is competitive for the spot, though, and I love my TDK due to my love of commandos in general.

If you run out of ammo (and you can aim), you did way more than your weight's worth of damage.

Get a PB, its loads of fun. 4ML + ECM...its like Xmas + Halloween on the 4th of July BBQ with an open bar !!!

Oh and the Cbill bonus.

The CBill bonus means nothing when it scores more than 30% less than its non bonus alternatives.
Ember is useless because the other standard varients will earn you more regardless of bonus.

MG's suckyness is a problem for a lot of light varients, for unknown reasons they were over nerfed.
They need somewhere between 25% to 50% damage buff to be decent again.

i dont own an ember but my oxide srm16 is another proven record. i am not a good player but with well placed srm shots, which unlike lasers need holding your aim, its fire and run off, OR you can run right up to their back armor and literally kiss their ass, stick to em and mess up their retreat, and just fire off without aiming while point up at their back CT. 2 to 3 shots to kill helped by fast recycle times quirks.

its a very cheap technique. but hey, that depends on who is on the other side of the barrel no?

EMBER :D

But why are you comparing Ember and Oxide? Huginn and Oxide, they are both SRM platforms, but Ember is ML/MG mix . . .

You can also do that much more cheaply with a Firestarter H.

I did that for a while when I first started. The difference between the H and the E is that the H can carry a respectable number of lasers. I am half tempted to do this again with the Ember, just for the dakka.

Ember used to be FAR better than the rest, but it's still a killer. It has decent range in comparison to most, and if you can survive then you can ream cored mechs with MG crits. They certainly went a bit too far quirking some lower tier mechs and letting the tier 1's get shafted.

I play my Oxide as an 8 SSRM build, and go hunting other lights and solitary heavies/mediums, or jump into brawls and wreck face while running circles around heavier mechs who can't turn.

It's a fun little mech. 800+ damage is very achievable with it, the only limit being ammo and how well you place your streaks.

Oxide is Great, Ember is Good, Locust is Epic.

I'll take the Pirates Bane over the other 2 any day of the week. (I do own all 3)
