To be honest, I want to see them talk more about the intended combat system.

Mechwarrior 4 scared me off of Mechwarrior online play due to abuse of the customization system and jump sniping. Long story short, it heavily upset what a Battletech game was supposed to be like, making one-hit-kills commonplace.

I want to see what they're doing in this game to balance gameplay so that the game isn't decided based on who has the best aim and quickest reflexes. I'm going to be flat out honest - I suck at those. I stick to single player because going online and getting my *** handed to me day-in-and-out is not fun, and I really don't want to be humiliated for weeks on end just to come close to being adequate. At least with tabletop, I can use my head rather than my hands, using tactics to increase or decrease probability of success - rather than having every possible tactic I can think of being usurped by the guy with the quicker trigger finger.

Besides that, single player has story that makes me compelled to fight. I've not got the sports minded competitive spirit, where "High Score" and beating everyone else is enough to satisfy me. I need to know why I'm doing what I'm doing. Why I'm blowing up the other guy. Considering that this is an online game, I have to assume that story has already gone out the window.

Long story short - Tell me why I, as a fan of single player, should give an online game a chance. Give me reason to believe it won't be dominated by "pro players" and make the game unapproachable. Why I shouldn't just stick to Dosbox and my old copy of Mechwarrior 2.

Thats asking for a lot, and it is unfair to the style of the game. The problem with an fps, mw3-4 kind of game is that you are not playing from the point of an officer commanding lances of mechs. You are playing the role of the actual mechwarrior, which if it was real, you would be dead if you are slower then the other guy who has better aim then you. Its just how it is, and that is how the game should be. Does it suck for those with slower reflexes? Sure, but there was a game that was put out years ago that was mech based and had a "soft lock" system of targeting. The game was okay for a while, until I started trying to use weapons that should have been a matter of picking out the target and firing. The soft lock system that was designed to help players, probably much like yourself, made the game unbearable for someone like me. The game was counter intuitive, the chances of me hitting ended up not being based upon my ability to calculate the rate of fire, the speed of the round, with x amount of lead time in order to nail a target going y speed in z direction. It became "point in general area, click, hope the digital d6 gives me a hit".

They did say that there is going to be an intel aspect to light mechs, that will likely mean that you can participate without having to have extremely fast reflexes in order to make a difference. I agree that the MW4 pogo'ing-alphastriking non-sense needs to go, but that is a problem with the mechanics of jumpjets in the game, not nerfing of someone's reflexes and ability to rapidly assess the situation. It ends up rewarding those who are playing games that they are not suited for, or do not wish to invest the time into becoming a contender all while punishing those that are playing a style of game that is right up their alley. To top it all off, they are punished again for being able to learn and adjust faster then others.

What we should be hoping for is that they add more to the game then we have seen in previous MW games. Content that will allow all sorts of players with various attributes to participate, have fun, and make a difference. It just should not punish players that are not willing to work on their skills, or reward those that cannot set things up to negate players that are quicker on the draw.

Really I'd just like to see what's in Alpha right now or even a snippet, but chances are we'll get another concept art for another 'Mech.

Maybe I am missing something, but I was just talking to another person in my gaming group about there being a new MW game coming out. The problem is that I cannot tell him if this game is an MMO, or if it is just another small time fps game. By MMO I mean a massive persistant world, not some twisted version that world of tanks likes to consider an mmo. By such a definition then any online game is an MMO, which it is not. One cannot take the jelly out of a peanut butter and jelly and still advertise it as a PB&J. Nor can one remove the persistent and massive game world out of an MMO and still consider it an MMO.

What I want is an upgraded planetside like system, applied to Battletech. As far as the clans are concerned, I don't really care when they come out. I don't care if we are going to see the Mauler any time soon or not. I don't care how much of the content is bought with real $$$ and what is bought with in game currency. I don't care about any of that until I know the scope and scale of the game. Its like telling me that the meal will have pepper in it and expect me to get excited about that when I have no idea if the meal is meat or veggie based. Is it italian, mexican, indian, english, japanese. I don't know if it is a sandwich, pizza, soup, or gelatin, but I am supposed to get excited that there is some pepper in the meal? Thats not going to happen and I don't think anyone would care about such a restaurant. What kind of game are we going to get into is what I want to know first and foremost, then get to the small details.

Since when did MMO stand for Massive persistent world? MMO stands for MAssively MULTIPLAYER ONLINE game ... The F2P business plan should definately ensure that side of things ... But I know WoT has many failings but it definatley qualifies as an MMO as do many many other games. Is it an MMORPG? no ...and has never claimed to be. Will it be like MW4 ... in much of its play style ... yes but it will not be PvE. Will there be a persistent element to the game ... yes ... but we don't have many details about it at the moment.

To sum up I think your definition of an MMO might need some work.

Its like saying I don't like dance music ... which kind? techno? trance? house? happy hard core? acid trance? break beats?

This will be either an MMO-SIM or an MMO-FPS ... or some combination of the two.

Does that answer your comments?

Bryan recently tweeted about this, and I thought I'd start a thread on about what everyone would like to see on the 5th and final Wednesday of November? And please no "I want to see a gameplay video". I made the suggestion though of a dev video interview or something which might be really fun. I'd also like to see more information about how Mech Corps will work.

What do you guys and gals think? Would rather see another new Mech? Or maybe find out more on a specific feature?

I for one do want to see actual game-play, MWO is very much vaporware until that happens. Games take time to develop and they have stated that MWO it will be going live in 2012 summer as such they must have something already made and in a working state or they are saving the content for exclusive deals with the press or they have nothing and are just fishing for hype before actually developing anything but deviant concept art.

Ideally, I'd love to see the option to pre-register our unit names. But I doubt we'll get that anytime soon. An announcement that the Unseen will be available in game would be a welcome alternative, though.

I set my sights pretty high, don't I?

Yes, pre-register unit names! I've had mine since late '97, and played the unit prior to that from '85. I would love to see it attached, even peripherally, to the BattleTech universe; been trying to do that for years. I never realized how hard it is to write one of the sourcebooks they seem to crank out all the time from CGL.

How they're going to handle the persistent elements of the game (Please salvage.) and what sort of aiming system they're intending to use. Assuming answers to both are intentions, not promises.

Have to ask for Meta-Game info. How XP, Salvage and C-Bill (financal) resources are likely to be handled.

Merc Corp info. How does a MC relate to a House if I "Have to Join" a House on start up? (That seems very weird)
How will they Balance House entrance numbers? Is their a minimum # of players required to sustain a House that wishes to hold on to its territories?

That kind of thing. So I guess another Q&A based on the Meta Game... (which surely many were asked in the first pass but never made the cut)

To sum up I think your definition of an MMO might need some work.

hahaha, since when did MMO mean anything other then a massive multiplayer online game that was persistent? World of tanks falsely uses the term "MMO", when it is nothing more then counterstrike with thanks. By your apparent definition, any game that has every been played online has been an MMO. The only way an online game has not been an MMO would be if the game was limited in distribution and only allowed a handful of people to ever play it online.

I think you need a crash course in game history if you believe that mmo does not include a persistent world. To suggest it is not is purely out of ignorance of what the term was originally used for prior to games such as WOT that may as well call itself anything it wants, including a teapot, since the company takes such a liberal approach to terms used to describe games. COD:Modern Warfare 2, by WOT's and your defintion of "MMO", was not a typical FPS game. Instead it was an MMO because there were more then a handful of people playing the game, regardless of the fact that the games were broken down to 15v15 and had nothing to do with any of the thousands of other 15v15 games being played just because of what? Because there is xp, levels, some sort of monetary system?

Your belief that somehow any game, including world of tanks is somehow an MMO is just out there in left field as the term MMO can be used to describe all online games, counterstrike to world of warcraft. Since all games are now MMOs, there is no need for the term "MMO" as it no longer indicates a difference between a game that allows only small fights (15v15 etc) that has no connection to anything else, or a game where there are hundreds of players running around that are able to interact with each other at all times, or fighting 133v133v133 fights on massive maps that has a persistent aspect. All games are mmos, no game is an mmo. That is completely false.

Also, your example with dance music is absolutely lacking. If someone does not like dance music, it is taken as they do not care which sub-genre, they don't like any of it. If they did not like house, which I hate, someone such as myself would say "I hate house music". Then again, that just adds to your inability to differentiate between what is a typical online game, and what is really an MMO. An MMO need not be an RPG.

Its funny that you thought somehow that you thought you could answer my questions with your backwards information that is no where near the truth.

I would be very interested in a list of the hardware company's they are working with. Just to get a idea of how in depth they are thinking for controls and whatnot. the company's list would not give any details on whats supported and what is not, but would be nice to have some idea of whats to come.
