Keep the psu, if it's "sli/crossfire ready" it can easily power a single 970.

Unless it's a Low End Crappy Lowest of the Low OEM.
To be safe, I'd Recommend This one: http://www.tigerdire...5451&CatId=5433

Pulled the trigger for at GTX 970 from newegg. I'll have to eat canned cat food for a while but at least I'll have decent FPS.

I know someone will come on here and lay a big steamy t*rd on my decision but we can't make everyone happy.

For the PSU guys, the local TigerDirect brick and mortar store is closing and I'm sure I can pick up a 1000w PSU relatively cheap. I'll check the cushions in my couch and car ash tray for extra change.

Absolutely no need for a 1000w PSU, a common mistake more prominent on the US side of the pond. Higher wattage is not always better.
No need for more than a 550-600W Decent PSU (EVGA,XFX,Seasonic, Superflower) for your setup

I decided to upgraded my rig primarily because I was getting 45-60 fps everything on low except Details which is High.

Old: AMD Phenom II x6 1045T 2.7 ghz with 8 gb ram & GTX 550Ti 1 gb

New: i7-5820K 3.3 ghz with 8 gb ram & Radeon R7 250 2gb

I'm considering the GTX 960 4g (~$240). $240 is the very top of my budget.

Any other cards I should consider before pulling the trigger?

Thanks

I recently upgraded to the GTX 970 4GB, and its just great. The GTX 960 is also great, but you can upgrade to it for under 200 AND get a copy of the witcher 3. http://www.amazon.co...eywords=gtx+960

So, if for whatever reason you hate awesome RPGs, you can sell your Witcher 3 download code on ebay, and pay even less overall for the card.

Yeah: I'm not happy about the cheap plugs, ether. <_<

Also: You need to add a fan to represent the CPU cooler. ^_^
