Hi.

I'm looking to team up with someone, using teamspeak, so that I could play alongside and learn the maps and positions.

However, I don't know where I could ask people to do this, or how I can play alongside someone else.

Can someone help?

there are options. one of the simplest is to join a faction and go on the faction teamspeak. you can find each faction's forum in a subforum of the Community Warfare section. I recommend joining House Kurita, as they have an extremely active and well organized teamspeak and are nice to new players. They mostly do Community Warfare, though.

If you do join a faction, I would start with just a week long contract. that way if you hate the guys you're with you can move on.

a lot of units have recruitment threads, or you may fall in with some cool guys ingame. Joining up that way is a reasonable thing to do.

unfortunately my unit recruits from our own pool of candidates or I'd invite you to drop with us, but if you join Kurita and go on their Teamspeak you'll make some contacts.

once you've got a unit, you'll find they often have their own teamspeak or mumble or something, so you can drop with them and learn the ropes. try not to join a unit full of jerks who will make you roleplay and show up at set times or any of that garbage.

these are the places to look around and see who you want to join. I should warn you: Marik, Liao, and Davion arent in a position to fight the clans, so they have less experience and are often not as good. Also Clan Wolf is a total joke for some reason. the other factions are mostly solid though. good luck

Stop by the Cameron's Highlanders teamspeak ts.cameronshighlanders.com:9998 in the evening some time, tell them you're new and I sent you by to pick their brains. if I'm around I'll certainly help ya, just read your treb thread...ouch. If you want to spider, get a 5D and fully upgrade it...maybe yet another new account (why not?!) and just do it. Having an ecm light to start is what I recommend, so you can use ecm and speed, so you can figure out the maps and how battles flow.

If you want to make a *lot* more cbills, get an HBK-4J, upgrade that (and use the same XL255 for the spider), TAG in the head, 2lrm10's, 4ML (2RT, 2 in the arms) and go to town. That'll help you with situational awareness too. You can hit multiple flanks with it, get lots of damage, and get TAG bonii when you're tagging for other lrms.

I have about 25,000 counted matches over my main and two F2P alt accounts if that helps.

The simplest way to "try out" different groups or even other random players like yourself would be to use the Looking for Group system.

Though I haven't got the foggiest idea how to use it so give me a few minutes to find out how much hair someone might pull out....

Mkay so this is actually pretty simple.

Posted Image
1) Click on Social (bottom center-right below the written mech stats).
2) Choose the LFG tab and then click on the big blue button "Add me to the looking for group queue."
3) You will get a dialogue showing which queue(s) you want to be in.
4) From what I can see you can choose between groups that have formed and I believe others can jump in to join you.

The public one didn't seem that active (but most people would be at work right now. I work night shifts).
The CW one was pretty active though.

That said it depends on who you meet along the way how helpful they are. Players generally are helpful but I can't speak for all of them. Note: In group queues there isn't much of a 'skill' base for who you are put up against so they could be awful or far better. If there is one then it's really, really loose. Kinda like Russian Roulette you spin the chamber, put it to your head and hope for a click.

Good luck and if you ever see me on I'll be happy to escort you or vice-versa through a few missions.

Filmed with two new players. This is after they've have their first 25 missions.
Spoiler

Okay, so I did quite a bit of stuff today.

Joined the NA server teamspeak, found a good player, made group and played together several matches. Also, I joined House Kurita for 7 days and played one Defense CW. We lost miserably against the attackers (we had no one on VOIP, no commander, no coordination) but I got 197 LP and 98k credits out of 15 minutes so I'm happy with that.

Thanks everyone for your advice.

If you want help learning the maps & common fighting areas, i could help.
if you have premium time, we could always drop into one on one matchs,
so i could walk around the maps with ya and point out locations & stand at
them. stuff like that

You're welcome to drop in our TS anytime!

TS Addy: brethrenmwo.enjinvoice.com
No password

Just copy and paste that link into the address in your TS client and tell them that Nightmare sent you. We're casual and don't mind folks dropping with us even if they aren't part of our Unit.

You may be interested in joining us though. I'm going to be starting some optional training classes in May for any of our pilots who are interested. Our website is brethrenmwo.enjin.com (very similar to our TS addy so don't confuse them!).

Sadly, I only play about 14:00 to 18:00 GMT, which is... 10:00 to 14:00 EST?

The quickest and simplest way to learn the maps and positions is to go with an experienced buddy into a private match and let him show you. Only if you want to do more (like practice team tactics) do you need to join an actual clan or unit.
