Little bit of a double-post? Anyway, the Panther is actually a pretty fun and respectable light mech. Certainly worth picking up for any light mech fan, now that it's available for c-bills.

EDIT: And that is speaking from someone that took the time to master all 3 variants with no gxp involved.

What he said ^

The Panther is a surprising amount of fun and probably my favorite mech in the Resistance pack after the ZEU-6T.

Lotsa fun with the Panther, especially the 9R. Just load up 4 Mplas, shove in as many double heat sinks as you like, a couple of jump jets, and an XL engine (I user a 245 vs the 250 - the 1/2 ton difference gives me an extra jump jet and another exterior heat sink for padding). With premium time, this is one of only 3 mechs (out of 60+) I've been able to master in under 30 drops playing in Puglandia.

You do realize that the extra external heatsink is only operating at 1.4x instead of 2.0x if it was in the engine, right?

Yep -

Here is the build I use. I'm only losing 1% heat efficiency (Smurfy), about 3 KPH, but I get another JJ. The extra mobility is woth it. Try it, you'll like it.

Try this. Much better.

BTW, padding isn't an issue around the engine. Crits don't work like that.

Panther is a great mech and a huge ton of fun. I feel at the moment it had been a bit of a well kept secret.

Personally I would recommend dropping $20 and getting the level one resistance pack to get these mechs and all the other goodies - including the resistance variant which is effectively a Hero mech. It is great value and I never regretted it.

I didn't like the looks of the hard points at first, but I've been running around with it since yesterday, and I gotta say, it's actually a very good and very fun mech!

(plus, the quirks are actually pretty good too! :) )

1)Your link is broken.
2) You missed the whole point. Creating padding was not the goal (but the more equipment installed in a side torso, the more padding THAT side torso has). The point of dropping to the 245 is to gain the extra jump jet while maintaining full armor and the ability to use the left arm as a (bit of) a shield. The very small loss in heat efficiency (1%) is very much offset by the added maneuverability. Like I said. Try the build. That third jump jet really makes a difference in the agility.

1) The link works just fine for me.

2) The only change is a XL250, drop a heat sink, and drop a little armor off the left side. Given comp builds have 1 point of armor on the side arm, leaving your build with 10 seemed perfectly reasonable. Still have all the JJs.

3) I run mine with fewer HS, 2JJ, and an SRM 6, and have carried in the group queue with it. I'm trying out 2 PPCs at the moment though.
