I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but I was wondering if there had been any statements from the Devs if people will be able to play as canon Merc Groups and House Units?

I don't expect that everyone can be the Gray Death Legion, or Warrior House Imarra, but will people be able to recreate some of the smaller groups?

Wow - fast response! Thanks!

Was this covered in a dev blog somewhere that I missed?

Yeah, I half-remember it being covered, but I can't locate where, or exactly what was said. I've been going through the dev blogs, but to no avail.

Last I heard they said some Canon units will NOT be player units.. They just have not given names or numbers yet.. Which is one reason some people are picking little known Canon units for their units.. Hoping the devs wont care since they had such a small part in the lore:)

If you want to join a canon unit that the devs are okay with, here you go: http://mwomercs.com/...ers-recruiting/

I assume they changed their mind, or their policy on canon units while you weren't looking. So there's still hope. :D

Hope that helps.

Always have a backup plan, I'd say.
Personally, I'm aiming at the 6th Ghost Regiment, but I got a back-up name ready in case the Ghost Regiments are off-limits.
Say hello to the Yūrei-tai dai mu-dankai (Ghost-Unit of the 6th Stage)!

Canon Merc Unit names will be filtered and denied, while Canon House Units can be joined, but are under control of the devs, and places have to be earned.

Alright... long overdue, much distraction in between.

Players will NOT be able to claim canon units as their own. When it comes to Mercenary Units/Corps/Companies, these names will not be available during MC creation. Trying to circumvent the naming system will result in the Merc Corp being renamed/denied.

Faction units are being handled slightly different. When a player aligns themselves with one of the major factions, say House Kurita, they will have the opportunity to join famous house units as the rank up by earning loyalty points. Some house units will require additional feats of excellence and challenges to achieve before membership is granted. Since these units are not run by the players, and we can reserve/restrict access to very active/famous units for sake of preserving the BattleTech timeline.

Our general stance on player run merc units is simple - create your own legacy! It's very unfair for players to stake ownership over a canon unit, and creates a host of politic and pr issues. So we're avoiding the complexities and edge cases associate with players assuming the role of these units by encouraging you to forge your own destiny.

This is our launch POV. As always, we listen to your feedback and ways to improve the system.

It's the best japanese translation I could do in only 5 minutes time or so.
How would you translate "Sixth Ghost Regiment" then?

I, personally, am HAPPY with the devs decision. I mean come on, ones take a name, for example, of, say, Northwind higlanders, or even Wolf's dragoons and play like ****. This can be a very disturbing experience. So YAY for tabula rasa start of factions!

Does that mean that there will be tiers of units? If so, how many tiers can be expected? :)

How would/could any prospective Faction Player have an idea of what units will be available for joining at first log-in, and which will "require additional feats of excellence" to attain membership? What criteria are being or will be used to determine which (if any) feats/challenges are suitable/acceptable for which units?

As a Davion-oriented Faction Player, would any of (as examples) the College of Martial Sciences Cadet Cadre, Robinson Rangers, or Davion Brigade of Guards units be immediately available at first log-in? Or would/should it be expected to have to start in one of the March Militia units and work one's way up to a non-militia unit? B)

I even wish they had filtered all of the BBS names as well. Too many laying claims on names from canon, in my opinion.

May be they will if they find it too confusing in game.
