Why would someone who put so much into this game even risk getting banned for cheating? Makes no sense to me.

Sometimes it's upbringing. Sometimes it's a mental disorder like kleptomania -they can't help themselves.

I was curious how the recent suspensions might have affected the "Calling all Founders" and "Phoenix Rising" tournaments. From what I see, the following divisions have been affected:

Hunchback HBK-4G (F)
Wolverine WVR-6R (P)
Locust LCT-1V (P)

Of the above, the Hunchback was mildly affected (top 10) and the Locust was barely affected (top 50), but the Wolverine rankings were (very) notably affected.

It would be nice if these listings were retroactively adjusted to disqualify those that were suspended. These tournaments took place recently enough that they don't deserve to retain their rankings.

Also, I'd like to take a second to congratulate Ribos on his victory. As far as I'm concerned, he won the Wolverine bracket.

For reference:

List of Suspensions:

Calling all Founders Tournament:
https://mwomercs.com...nts?t=201505flb

Phoenix Rising Tournament:
https://mwomercs.com...nts?t=201505plb

yay! I really made 15th on HBKs! Not bad considering I only got to play a day and a half!

The Founders tournament was also impacted by the fact that players could score off of group queue games despite the tournament clearly being for solo queue games only (I emailed support asking about this but have not heard back). This script bug was identified and fixed in the Phoenix tournament.

The Founder leaderboard would no doubt look a lot different with cheaters and group queue matches removed. Kind of makes me wonder why I spent a good part of my weekend getting Top 5 in the Atlas board.

Priorities not set straight. That's putting personal temporary satisfaction over loss of integrity.

Any dishonest act has 3 components
1: opportunity (cheats exist)
2: pressure from others or personal)
3: rationalization. This is when you "convince" yourself that what you are doing is "ok" because [insert lame excuse]

1 and 2 are always present. It's number three that make people cross that line.

Founders aren't some ancient lineage of nobility nor are we ideal role-models for society. In all honesty we're just people who paid $30-$120 for shiny robots before anyone else could.

I have just realized that Catapult Leaderboard is safe because aimbots would not do you any good with aiming your LRMs.

I mean, if you had to use an aimbot to aim your LRMs, you probably deserve to use it.. LoL

Wall hacks would help though... have a TAG just waiting to paint a target about to expose themselves and for making sure no one is circling around to come shove your LRMs down your face.

Having no idea how a wall hack is supposed to work, forgive me if I make some assumptions =)

You still won't be able to shoot at them right? And probably even if you see them clear as day you probably still would not be able to kill them.. I mean, they're just LRMs..

If the cheater was a terribad that did know what with the information he is given.. Sure... It doesn't help..
If he acutally does here would always be putting himself out harm way.

LRMs can be effective, but to be effective you have to maintain a proper distance about about 250-350 meters while still among your team and have very good awareness of where the enemy team is. Using them effectively ends up being all about awareness... guess what a wallhack enhances. ;)

Good points both of you. I guess it benefits you the same way as the seismic sensor benefits you. God knows how many times THAT sensor saved my life.

I knew there were probably a couple people out there that used hacks of one sort or another because I have seen a couple instances of very suspicious play (but VERY rare). But seeing there were 60+ people that did surprises me. Very disappointing.

Why on Earth would someone cheat at MWO? Get a meta mech and play try hard, you'll be fine.

Ashamed for the founders on the ban list.

I agree, the game is so satisfying to play legit. Its the whole reason I still play.

Well it's the same reason people use cheese-builds that "normal" players would find boring. Some people can only have fun by winning. For some that means sitting 15 minutes behind a wall playing pop-tart, for some it means to get tools that others don't have to get an advantage. If you can only have fun by winning in a game, you will use whatever methods you have at your disposal to win. And some just will go a step further and use forbidden means to do it.

I not sure I understand the rationale for cheating.

There are no in game products that can be sold for real cash

Cheating only improves your stats, to which u are the only person who is ever going to look at it. Not sure how knowing that u cheat will help your sense of satisfaction.

I can only imagine the need for more cbills or completing events to get the prizes.

Definitely not worth it.

Indeed. Having an 19.2 K/D ratio while cheating seems impotent. What good is it if your friends know how you got it and if you were to brag about it, everyone else would simply assume, correctly too, that you were cheating.
