Is Ram Damage Too Powerful?

no it isnt. but it was pretty funny watching a Death's Knell trying to ram kill a stormcrow.

a weird weapon choice on the crow too

Also, why the f*ck is damage focused on legs right now? In a light, my teammates run into me, and suddenly I lose armor on my legs. Sucks. Need to change that. If the collisions really happened, the damage would likley occur somewhere around my CT/head. Not my legs. The angle simply isn't possible.

You couldn't ask for more evenly balanced teams than that.

Because it is your leg hitboxes that is colliding which is resulting in collision damage ?
Anyway...
Who says focused on legs...

Didn't exist in any mechwarrior game right ?
I know DFAs where MW2 but not sure how they worked though.
Anyway a 35Ton light mech running 150KPH ramming a 100Ton Assault mech would probably destroy the assault mech too.

i bet that sentence came out wrong - or wasn't meant to come across the way it sounded

We need not be reminded why knock downs is gone from the game.
Can someone somewhere clone a Karl Berg or two so, PGI can this long pending stuff moving...
But now mechlab is done... I want Lasers HSR to go to top priority...

Let's test your theory to see if it is true because I don't believe that it is. Did some math wizardry comparing a 35 ton Battlemech at 150 kph to a 100 tonner at 54 kph.
35 Tonner Impact Force: (2mv/t)
mass (m) = 31,751.5 kg
velocity (v) = 41.66667 m/s
time of impact (t) = 1 sec
2 (31,751.5) (41.66667) / 1 = 2,645,958.54501 Neutons Force
2,645,958.54501 N = 594,835.14336 Pounds of Force
_______________________________________________________________________________
100 Tonner Impact Force: (2mv/t)
mass (m) = 90,718.5 kg
velocity (v) = 15.00000 m/s
time of impact (t) = 1 sec
2 (90,718.5) (15.0) / 1 = 2,721,555 Neutons force
2,721,555 N = 611,829.90249 Pounds of Force
_______________________________________________________________________________
As you can see the Assault hits harder in a collision situation. But to get a real idea of what these numbers mean let's find the force in pounds of a Gauss Rifle slug so that we can estimate the degree of damage they can do against a stationary target. I'm assuming that the Gauss Rifle fires a slug at 2,000 m/s and impacts over the course of .5 seconds.
Gauss Rifle Slug Impact Force: (2mv/t)
mass (m) = 100.00 kg
velocity (v) = 2,000.00 m/s
time of impact (t) = 0.5 sec
2 (100.00) (2,000.00) / 0.5 = 800,000 Neutons force
800,000 N = 179,847.15429 Pounds of Force
Now we just divide the 35 and 100 tonners' impact force with that of the Gauss Rifle slug to determine the number of Gauss rounds required to equal the force of one of these mechs hitting a stationary object.
35 tonner:
594,835.14336 = 3.30745 Gauss rounds = 49.6118 damage
179,847.15429
100 tonner:
611,829.90249 = 3.40194 Gauss rounds = 51.0292 damage
179,847.15429
_______________________________________________________________________________
Alright so they both hit about the same but the difference is that the Assault mech would definitely be able to withstand a single 35 tonner ramming it while it is standing still and could even take several additional rams from other 35 tonners (depending on where they hit) until it went down. It's also highly unlikely that the Light mech would survive the impact from such action.
Unfortunately the 35 tonner on the other hand is practically guaranteed to get pancaked after just one ramming hit from the Assault mech. It's only hope is to run away and avoid getting charged.
This isn't entirely accurate since I do make a few assumptions such as time of impact and gauss velocity but overall it should give a fairly good idea of what degree of damage you are looking at if it occurred.

Ermm... Ok nice effort but partially using game values with physics is different since I was viewing from a more realistic stand point.
Just make it simple... A real 100 Ton tank rams into a 35 Ton Tank at the respective speeds.
Surely the 35 tonner is dead... But do you really expect the 100 Tonner survive ?
