So, apparently we are entering Open Beta and I just got a USS Arkansas which I completely didn't expect! She has a weird design though, where 2/3 of her gun are mounted on the aft. They are also not that accurate but we'll see how she performs the more I play.

I'm now playing destroyers and it's been a blast so far! It's like piloting an Oxide.

Ships with more guns on the aft are expected to perform hit and run attacks. With two guns on the aft, they can aim more firepower at their pursuers.

Apparently I was wrong, she has technically 2 guns on forward, 2 on amidships, and 2 on aft. The two guns on the middle look like they are mounted on aft.

But still, why do you design a BB like this? If a DD has her guns more on the aft, I can understand.... But BB?

Load balance. For that many guns, and that massive of an engine, you want to spread them across three main sections, instead of two. The frame would probably have more stress tolerance that way. Especially since it's got a lot of armor. I'm guessing here, based on my limited knowledge of naval construction.

I think the Wyoming class and the Fuso class are built that way too.

And yes, its about balancing the weight distribution.

If you like to see a weird turret layout, check out the Battleship Kawachi.

This game's OST must be one of the best out there!

Definitely. The game's music is stunning --- from the log on screen to the port lobby and the battles itself.

Login screen

Modules and Research --- Probably my favorite

Someday, hopefully soon, we may see the IJN Tone class heavy cruiser. This ship has one of the weirdest turret layouts ever --- all in the front.

Speaking of this, I can't stop wondering why the later ships used more sweptback, aerodynamic, directed vent, and "joined" funnels instead of the simple straight ones we see earlier. I'm especially curious about why they joined two funnels together like on the depicted ship above.

I can guess the reasons but I like to know them (can't find them on the net).

They started experimenting with that funnel design first in the Yubari, which you see on game. The Yubari was a technical success --- it was a technology test bed. From then on, it became adopted in later designs. I think by keeping the smoke low and going backward, it makes the ship less visible from a distance, while venting against the low pressure on the backside, makes the exhaust more efficient.

So 7 pages of discussion that could be summed up as:

World of Warships.... Exactly like World of Tanks or World of Warplanes, but with WW2 warships.

I know this is an old thread, but I recently started playing WoW. I just want to say, MWO needs their own "Dasha Perova" doing update videos. ;)

Nothing wrong with that. Call of Duty is a "rip off" of Doom. Starcraft is a "rip off" of Command & Conquer. DOTA2 is a "rip off" of League of Legends. Armored Warfare is a "rip off" of World of Tanks. etc. etc.

There's nothing wrong with following an established formula or "genre" that people like - just so long as the game you're making isn't a 1-for-1 exact replica of the source material.

World of Warships is close to being a 1-for-1 replica of Navyfield.

The only real difference is Navyfield plays from a 2D sprite based isometric perspective and World of Warships is more 3D with better graphics.

That's a good example of aerospace fighters in MWO.

Jets hovering 5 feet off the ground to appease "jump jets are OP" vertically aiming challenged demographics.

So they're adding the British Light Cruisers AND...

...splitting the Japanese Destroyer line to add more destroyers.

This means we might see the inclusion of more ships, like the British Battlecruiser or Japanese Cruisers.

German Battleships have arrived.

The Scharnhorst

Amidst the German battleships introduced, the first French ship was also introduced.
