Although it would be a nice feature and I personally really like First and third person, the only person that gets effected by the 'third person simulation breaker' is the player themselves, it should be a choice, and besides scouting would be cheating if you could see people from cover ;D

Perhaps adding 3rd person view with no hud, or corsair.

Perhaps even restricting 3rd person's view's y axis, where you cant look over crest's of hills when your behind them?

Make it useless, but still have it.

No 3rd person for ingame play. but I like the idea of having 3rd person for replay of recorded matches. Like this everyone can enjoy his mech blasting away without any gamebreaking exploits it would bring in actual gameplay.

Nope. I don't need any more people using it to see over hills, lining up poptart shots, and other wankery.

First person FTW.

Just my two cents here.

I would welcome a 3rd person option. It can be a tactical advantage. Now how it could be implemented as a game mechanic might annoy some though. The idea is that the Mechwarrior wants a "birds eye view around him. Either a periscope, or wireless camera sensor rises above the Mech. While in this view the Mech can not move due to the pilot viewing the feed. Another option could be for one Mechwarrior to be stationed in the Drop Ship, and act as an overwatch for the other Mechs. Via a Mech drone he locates targets, and helps the team maintain situation awareness. This video feed could be viewed by the Mechwarriors on the field to coordinate attack plans. This would simulate the MechCommander aspect of the genre. More RTS then FPS.

In the end the tech being used limits the game play options. Still could be a interesting option. A few games now offer this type of gameplay for players to "step back" and play more outside the box, then in the box.

Why do people continue to beat this dead horse?

Fisrt off, Its been discussed ad infinitum, and nobody has yet to come up with one single good idea, hell not even a bad one, on how to overcome the unfair advantages that 3PV brings over those who do not use it.

Second, this is a SIMULATOR, not and arcade game, how hard is that to comprehend?
This is Mechwarrior not mechassault, and curse Microsoft for adding that option in MW4

I challenge anyone here who want 3PV in MWO to try and drive a car from 3PV, in the same way you want to be able to pilot a mech in 3PV.
If you can show me that you can indeed drive a car, in REAL LIFE, while you are flying above and behind it as well as explain and show to me how you do it, then I will be willing discuss 3PV in MWO.
If you cannot then stop demanding something that the greater majority do not want in the game-

I vote in favour of introducing 3PV. It would be a very useful feature, and I consider the lack of it as one of the biggest drawbacks of the game. Big enough to put me off playing the beta. Whether people think it will bring the game closer to strategy, or not, it is a team game which means that it has quite a lot from a strategy in it already...

I find the view from a cockpit very restricting (even feel a bit claustrophobic) And without it I don't have the full feel of control over a mech. 3PV would help a lot here.

The big question is which way devs will go:
1. "omg it feels so real" way,
or
2. "it's actually fun to play" way...

3rd person gives an unfair advantage to whose who use it over those who does not.

You will be able to look over hills and around corners and see what is there, with no risk to yourself.

And this is the devs Official response on the matter.
