I just want to ask: Will there be 3rd person mode in the game when it release? The reason i ask this is because i like to be able see my own mech in the battle and it just feels different then first person view. Also i like customization and i would like to be able see those customization myself instead of just letting other people to see them. To me, this is a pretty important aspect that i would like to know. Thank you in advance.

Sincerely,

No.

Q. Will you be able to switch from first-person to third-person views?

A. The game is played from the first person. We’re exploring ways to have a third person camera that make sense from a gameplay point of view.

Only way would be a 3rd person only mode in custom servers. ;)

The problem becomes how to balance the very large advantage 3rd person gives you

Why must be one or the other? There are other games (which i won't name them) that have both mode and are working just fine. 3rd person view for maneuver and first person view for more precised aiming. :) It just doesn't make sense to customize my mech if i don't get to see it often except in garage.

If i spent money in this game for customization, the least i expect is i would receive the benefit of being able to see it getting blow apart, losing its arms or legs during the battle and rage at my monitor for no apparent reason. <_<

It adds to the immersion... a lot and Mechwarrior was always about immersion.

How many times have you seen your new clothes from behind yourself?

It would imbalance the game if someone used the third person, while others would not.

That's because i can't. It's a limitation in real-life, not a choice. There is no reason to enforce the same limitation in a game. However, i do look into the mirror sometimes.

You can look into your mirror/Mechlab in between the fights ;)

If 3rd person were made available, it would become the default view due to it's huge tactical advantage. No thank you.

That's just not as fun as it sounded. Looking at a stationary mech in the garage is not as appealing as seeing it perform on the battlefield.

First person view has its advantage too: being able to see the target more clear and pick the part you want to shoot. It's not like i am suggesting people can only pick one view or the other. People should be able to switch between views instantly.

Maybe.

I still prefer the game to be 1st person only.

Though, if the devs get a good 3rd person view together that does not give tactical advantages (which seems hardly possible imho), bring it on. :)

I would like A LOT 3rd person view after u dead to see the progress of battle, or a 3rd view mode when u see replays.
But yup, i agree with others a 3rd person view while playing is not recommended.

I still don't understand what kind of game breaking advantage can 3rd person view offer...

Isn't MWO employ a similar spotting mechanic from WoT? You will be high-lighted if you are spotted anyway. (with some kinda rectangle at the top of your mech) And you will be concealed if not being spotted, so the 3rd person view won't be that helpful.

Edit: Maybe i am completely wrong because i only watched some videos from youtube.
